Welding Torches feature optimized back end assembly.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for hand-held, air-cooled industrial welding applications, Q(TM)-Guns come in 150-600 A models, are rated at 100% duty cycle with CO2 gas, and offer multiple handle and trigger options. Power pin bushings integrated into back end assembly minimize number of parts and eliminate removal of rear strain relief to change power pins. Back end assemblies facilitate changeover of direct plugs and use of trigger cable adapters or pigtails.

Bernard® Upgraded Q(TM)-Gun Back End Assembly Increases Durability and Flexibilty on MIG Welding Applications

BEECHER, Ill. September 12, 2005 - To improve durability and increase flexibility on demanding MIG welding applications, Bernard introduces its upgraded Q(TM)-Gun back end assembly. This new addition, along with the Q-Gun's multiple handle and trigger options, amperage configurations and simplified consumables, helps reduce welding downtime and associated labor costs.

More Durable, More Flexible
Bernard designed its upgraded back end assembly with increased wall thickness to provide more durable strain relief. Power pin bushings integrated into the back end assembly further increase strength, while also reducing the number of parts and eliminating removal of the rear strain relief to change power pins. The power pins (excluding Bernard and Euro) have male threads, allowing welding operators to twist them in and out of the adapter block of the redesigned strain relief.

According to Bill Giese, product manager, Bernard, "We designed the new back end assembly to be stronger and easier to use. Not only that, but each of the features helps welding operators reduce their downtime - they can spend less time changing over components and more time welding."

The upgraded back end assemblies allow for easier changeover of direct plugs and for the use of trigger cable adapters or "pigtails," which come with all direct plug kits (except Bernard and Euro). The "pigtails" eliminate the need for maintenance crew to remove the strain relief in order to reconnect trigger wires, helping reduce welding operator downtime. Giese adds, "For further convenience, all of the new direct plug replacement kits (1199M, 1199T, etc.) are backwards compatible with Q-Guns that have the old style back end. That compatibility makes changeover easier."

Upgrading on Reliability
The upgraded back end assembly enhances the durability and flexibility already known to Bernard's Q-Guns. Because 85 percent of all welding costs are labor related, the Q-Gun, with its upgraded back end assembly, assists in quick component changeovers and allows for longer periods of arc-on time.

In addition to the upgraded back end assembly, Bernard's Q-Guns feature a patent pending straight handle to improve ergonomics, along with trigger and switch options that allow welding operators to choose between locking trigger, dual pull trigger, dual schedule switch and trigger extension. Bernard Q-Guns come in 150, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 amp models and are rated at 100 percent duty cycle with CO2 gas. Bernard offers five unique gun handles to suit any hand-held, air-cooled industrial welding application, along with the option for a fixed or rotating neck. In addition, patented Jump Liner technology reduces replacement liner costs by 65 percent.

Bernard offers its CustomSelect(TM) ordering system (www.bernardwelds.com) for all Q-Guns. By using the CustomSelect ordering system, operators can choose handle and neck configurations, and have the option to attach Centerfire(TM) consumables to their Q-Guns. Through their revolutionary design, Centerfire series gas diffusers, contact tips and nozzles bring superior performance and reduced downtime to all Q-Guns by improving gas flow and reducing spatter.
