New Auto Invision Welding Power Source For Automation Is Most Powerful Inverter In The Industry

- PC and PDA/Palm(TM) compatibl
- Automatically identifies robot and calibrates appropriately

APPLETON, Wis., April 5, 2002 - Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced the Auto Invision(TM) 6500, the world's most powerful welding inverter and the first in a new generation of high-performance welding power sources for automation. The Auto Invision 6500 boasts a DC welding output of 5 to 1170 amps with a 100 percent duty cycle rating of 675 amps, 44 V. It performs MIG, pulsed MIG, adaptive pulsed MIG and flux cored welding for robotic and fixed automation systems. To interface with factory floor communication networks, the Auto Invision 6500 communicates internally via DeviceNet(TM).

"The Auto Invision also is PC and PDA/Palm(TM) compatible for programming and downloading information," said Eric Young, Miller product manager. "This also allows Miller engineers to remotely access the Auto Invision's information for e-mailing weld programs and performing diagnostics." The Auto Invision 6500 is also compatible with automated systems that use analog interfaces.

Simple Integration

"Miller has designed the Auto Invision 6500 to be an extremely flexible and simple system for integrators and end-users alike," Young said. "It automatically recognizes the type of robot and calibrates its programs appropriately. No other welding power source has this feature."

The Auto Invision 6500 integrates the welding power source and controller into one package. This simplifies integration with the rest of the welding system and reduces cabling. Plus, the unit features a 1/4-turn quick connector for fast connect and disconnect.

The Auto Invision 6500 is ideal for heavy manufacturing and high-volume welding applications such as automotive and construction machinery. Its powerful microprocessors enhance the welding process by producing higher deposition rates, higher travel speeds and less spatter in these high-volume applications.

The Auto Invision 6500 incorporates Auto-Line(TM) technology, a Miller-exclusive feature that allows the power source to accept input power ranging from 190 to 630V, single- or three-phase, 50 or 60Hz without any manual relinking. This allows users to plug it into any type of primary power in the world.

Additional features include:

- Sharp Start(TM), which ensures a consistent arc start at the start of every weld (important in frequent start/stop applications that require weld repeatability).

- An electronic inductance control feature that minimizes spatter and optimizes weld bead wetting action. This is especially useful when welding stainless steel, silicon bronze and Inconel.

- SharpArc® technology, an arc control that offers a simple way to tailor factory weld programs to accommodate a variety of welding applications. This can reduce the need to develop customized pulsed MIG programs.

- Fan-On-Demand(TM) cooling system and Wind Tunnel Technology(TM) to reduce the amount of airborne contaminants interfering with sensitive electronics.

The Auto Invision 6500 is covered by Miller's True Blue® 3-year factory warranty.
