New Trailblazer® 302 and 275 DC Offer Improved Arc Performance and Digital Meters with SunVision(TM) Technology

- Features four preset DIG settings, Adaptive Hot Start, "Lift-Arc" and improved MIG/FCAW arc starts
- Tougher case design reduces sound level

APPLETON, Wis. October 4, 2004-- Designed to provide improved arc performance, the new Trailblazer® 302 CC/CV, AC/DC and Trailblazer 275 DC CC/CV engine-driven welding generators from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. now feature four preset DIG settings, Adaptive Hot Start, Lift-Arc/Scratch Start TIG with Auto-Stop and enhanced MIG/FCAW arc starts. Providing a fully enclosed case and super-tough XENOY® "protective armor" on the front panel, the new Trailblazer series offers increased durability, reliability and significantly reduced noise levels.

To increase efficiency and provide the best arc quality without expensive, complicated electronics, the Trailblazer's 4-pole, 3-phase generator is kept separate from a second Accu-Rated 10,000 watt power generator. Miller developed the Accu-Rated standard to give customers honesty and clarity when comparing generator power. Accu-Rated power means that Trailblazers deliver 10,000 watts of useable peak power for a minimum of 30 seconds for maximum generator loads, such as plasma cutting, running a Millermatic MIG welder and motor starting.

The Trailblazers' digital meters feature exclusive SunVision technology. Readable in direct sunlight, these meters display preset amperage or voltage when not welding, actual amperage and voltage during welding and for 5 seconds after welding has stopped. The meters provide a separate oil change interval display, which provides a 100 to 0 hour countdown to indicate when an oil change should be performed. A 12-gallon fuel tank-20 percent larger than previous versions-allows 20 hours of operation on a typical job using 1/8-in 7018 electrodes at 125 amps with a 20 percent duty cycle. In addition, new accessories are available for the new Trailblazer series including durable running gear, allowing easy maneuverability; heavy-duty, water and mildew-resistant protective covers, providing protection to the Trailblazers' finish; and rugged protective cages with cable holders, offering additional protection to the Trailblazers' internal and external components.

The Trailblazer 302 provides 30 to 300 amp DC output and 35 to 225 amp AC output, while the Trailblazer 275 DC offers 30 to 275 amp DC output. The superior welding performance of both Trailblazers benefit a wide range of industrial applications including fabrication, maintenance and repair, structural steel work, pipe and sheet metal.

"Professional welders buy the Trailblazer series for three reasons: they run wire for a living, need independent generator and weld power or demand premium arc performance," states John Leisner, product manager, Miller Electric. "The new Trailblazers have an even better arc performance with a tougher, more durable design."

Best Arc Performance
Offering exceptional arc characteristics for different electrodes and joint designs, the Trailblazer 302 and 275 DC feature four preset DIG settings. Providing combined DIG and Process switch, along with preset DIG settings, offers simple set up without the complication of multiple switches. The four preset DIG settings include: soft arc and smooth 7018 performance, medium-soft driving arc, medium-stiff driving arc and driving arc for applications such as pipe welding.

In addition, both Trailblazers offer Adaptive Hot Start for Stick welding, which automatically sets starting amperage for improved arc starts, and Lift-Arc/Scratch Start TIG with Auto-Stop, which helps prevent weld contamination and provides great DC starts. The Auto-Stop feature allows stopping the arc without losing shielding gas coverage. Superior MIG/FCAW performance and arc starts make the Trailblazer 302 and 275 DCs arc best in its class. All wires are easy to run, ranging from .023-in. solid wires to large diameter 5/64-in. flux cored wires.

"The previous Trailblazer models have always provided superior arc characteristics, but with the Trailblazer 302 and 275 DC's four preset DIG settings, Adaptive Hot Start and Lift-Arc/Scratch Start TIG with Auto-Stop, Miller was able to improve arc characteristics even more," says Leisner.

Toughest and Quietest in Class
To better protect the engine, increasing its reliability and durability, Miller designed the case to fully enclose the machines. Removable service doors allow quick access on either side of the unit for easy engine maintenance even when truck mounted.

The fully enclosed case design provides two additional benefits. First, it reduces noise levels to 75.5 dB at rated load-1/3 quieter than previous models. The reduced noise level provides a safer and more worker-friendly environment, removing strain on welders' ears and allowing conversation to take place more freely. The Trailblazers are the quietest machines in their class and among the quietest machines in the industry. Second, Miller redesigned the airflow path through the case to allow air to escape through only one exit port on the top of the back panel. This location minimizes the chance of airflow being blocked when the unit is truck-mounted and decreases the chances of hot air re-entering the unit, and therefore significantly lowers the temperature of internal components and helps to extend component life.

To provide additional protection, high impact armor guards the entire front of the machine, the edges of the front panel, receptacle covers and output studs. This super-tough XENOY plastic resin from GE offers great impact resistance at both high and low temperatures and provides good chemical resistance.

The Trailblazer 302 and 275 DC are covered by Miller's True-Blue three-year factory warranty.
