WEG Improves the Environmental Impact of the La Corona Sugar Mill in Argentina

WEG Manufacturing in San Francisco, Córdoba, recently installed the largest low voltage variable frequency drive (2280A) controlling a WEG 900kW, 6-pole, 380V electric motor at a sugar mill in Argentina. This new solution will replace an existing diesel engine, resulting in significant productivity and environmental benefits.

WEG is investing continually in technological innovations for industry at global level. In fact, one of its main objectives is to design projects that help modernize and meet the needs of its customers, even under the most challenging applications.

This was the case in the town of Concepción, Province of Tucuman, where WEG through its Distributor and Service Agent, Atilio Marola, provided an excellent technical solution to optimize the production at La Corona sugar mill.

The end result of the project was to provide better performance, optimization, and control of the production process. This project included the replacement of an old diesel motor with an electric motor, specifically designed for the mill and operated by a new electrical panel powered at 380V, and a CFW11M frequency drive integrated at 2280A. This low voltage frequency drive installation is the largest ever supplied by the WEG subsidiary in Argentina.

This modernization now grinds the sugar cane for juice extraction with improved productivity, and most importantly replaces an old diesel motor with an improved electric power solution, allowing the plant to improve its environmental footprint by not burning fossil fuels.
