SIEMENS UNVEILS WIRELESS, INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH, HANDHELD WEB PAD

ALPHARETTA, Ga., March 1, 2002 - Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc., has introduced the MOBIC® wireless web pad, a robust, handheld device that delivers convenient and dependable access to the World Wide Web or intranet.

Unlike palm-sized devices, the MOBIC's (Mobile Industrial Communicator) ample 8.4", SVGA 800 x 600 pixel display eliminates the need to scroll for data. Designed to withstand a six-foot drop, the MOBIC is IP65 rated (splash and dust-proof) and withstands high vibrations making it suitable for forklift mounting applications.

The MOBIC communicates on a wireless LAN network (IEEE 802.11b) to access a central server, and can operate for up to eight hours on a single battery charge.

The Windows® CE-based, mobile web pad can be used as a terminal client and operates and monitors all applications running on a Windows 2000 terminal server. These include industrial SCADA applications, such as the SIMATIC® WinCC process visualization system, or a maintenance management and quality assurance system.

With Terminal Services Computing from Windows 2000, data, applications, and screen output are presented separately allowing thin clients to run applications on the central Windows 2000 terminal server instead of using their own memory.
