Onset Introduces New Weather Station Sensor Adapters

New Universal Sensor Adapters make it easy to add third-party sensors to HOBO Weather Station and Micro Station Systems

BOURNE, MA, October 17, 2003 - Onset Computer Corporation, the leader in reliable, battery-powered data loggers and weather stations, today introduced two Universal Sensor Adapters for the company's award-winning HOBO Weather Station products. The new 12-bit 4-20 mA adapter and 0-5 VDC voltage Universal Sensor Adapters enable HOBO Weather Station and Micro Station users to quickly and easily supplement Onset's wide range of plug-and-play smart sensors with specialized third-party sensors.

"While our full line of research-grade smart sensors covers most of our customers' climate monitoring needs, there are many situations where a customer may need to measure parameters that fall outside the scope of our standard sensor suite," said Paul Gannett, Product Marketing Manager for Onset. "The new Universal Sensor Adapters open up a wide range of sensor options for our weather station customers, while keeping system configuration as simple as it's always been."

Both Universal Sensor Adapters feature 12-bit resolution and measurement averaging for high accuracy, and provide trigger signals for controlling power to external sensors. The 4-20 mA adapter sells for $79, and the 0-5 VDC voltage adapter sells for $69. Both adapters are currently available from Onset.

About the HOBO Weather Station
Onset's award-winning HOBO Weather Station can be user-configured with any combination of up to 15 channels of sensor inputs and can log up to 340,000 12-bit measurements. The system can be equipped to measure the user's choice of temperature, relative humidity, dew point, rainfall, soil moisture, photosynthetic light (PAR), solar radiation, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure. HOBO Weather Station smart sensors simply plug into the data logger and are automatically recognized without complicated wiring, programming or calibration requirements. Powered for one year using only four AA batteries, the HOBO Weather Station eliminates the need for solar panels and large battery packs. Data collected by the station can be offloaded while logging or when data recording has stopped, and can be offloaded in the field with HandCar(TM) software for Palm(TM) handhelds. BoxCar® Pro software can be used to display and analyze data acquired by the HOBO Weather Station, and creates files that are easy to export for use in the spreadsheets or database applications. Onset's compact, four-channel HOBO Micro Station has similar advantages and accepts the same range of smart sensors.
