Montreal, Canada - July 10, 2006 -Wavesat today announced they are working with Texas Instruments to develop a 5.8 GHz Mini-PCI module and reference design. The product will be commercially available by Q4 of 2006 from Wavesat.
The 5.8 GHz Mini-PCI design is a development platform supporting OEMs efforts to design WiMAX-compliant wireless systems for the 5.8 GHz unlicensed band using Wavesat 's Evolutive WiMAX(TM) DM256 chip and TI 's family of WiMAX-optimized radio frequency (RF) solutions. Based on the WiMAX Forum profile, the 5.8 GHz Mini-PCI design greatly simplifies the overall WiMAX CPE design, enabling customers to bring WiMAX solutions to market faster and more cost-efficiently, while allowing for flexibility to address further changes driven by the WiMAX emerging market dynamics, application diversity and customer profiles.
Key features of the 5.8 GHz Mini-PCI Design Provides a plug-and-play, complete solution for the lower layer air interface and time critical low-level MAC functionality.
o WiMAX Forum certifiable design for CPE
o Mini-PCI design enabling compact, easy-to-use solutions
o Meets all six SUI Non Line of Sight channel models
o Adaptive modulation BPSK, QPSK, 16-QAM & 64-QAM
o 37.5 Mbps data throughput
o Supports TDD, 5.725 to 5.875 GHz Frequency.
o Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS)
o 10 MHz channel bandwidth offering high throughput per channel
"We are pleased to join with Wavesat to enable our customers to quickly capture the 5.8GHz market, " said Kent Novak, manager of TI 's high speed communications group. "WiMAX has many options and opportunities. By offering a robust portfolio of DSP and analog products that span various frequencies, we believe that OEMs and service providers alike will realize broader deployment scenarios with reduced time to market. "
"Working with a world leader in digital signal processing and analog technologies such as Texas Instrument reflects our commitment to protect our customer investments and develop time-enduring solutions, " said Vijay Dube, VP Marketing and Business Development for Wavesat. "Because 5.8 GHz is an unlicensed frequency band, it can be rapidly deployed by Wireless Internet Service Providers around the world and especially in North America, where it is the only WiMAX Forum profile currently deployable. "
