WaterProfessionals® Installs Ingenious High-Tech Water Recycling System at Major Diesel Engine Manufacturing Facility

Not only did the customized water recycling system save money -
it also reduced company liability and even generated a new source for oil-based fuel.

(Greenville, SC, USA) - The WaterProfessionals® - one of the world's leading providers of high quality processed water and water-related services - recently created a unique and innovative system to produce ultra pure water for rinsing and cleaning of injectors for a major diesel engine manufacturing company.

"The system at the newly constructed manufacturing facility consists of reverse osmosis followed by portable exchange deionization," explains WaterProfessionals® spokesperson Randy Leathers. "But while at the site," Leathers adds, "the WaterProfessionals® team discovered that when the plant was built the design called for sending all of their process water to a Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). Unfortunately, the nearby POTW was unable to take any of the process effluent, so the facility was forced to haul approximately 10,000 gallons of waste water per day for disposal elsewhere."

So WaterProfessionals® worked with the manufacturer to develop a unique and comprehensive waste water recycling program. They designed a system to treat the waste water by utilizing an oil water separator to remove any free oils, plus a tubular ultrafiltration membrane system. The tubular ultrafiltration system is engineered to take out any remaining emulsified oils. The water is then polished by a carbon filtration unit and an organo clay material before being stored in a clean water holding tank. The water from the holding tank is further processed by the reverse osmosis and deionization system to provide ultra pure water that can be re-used in the facility.

Thanks to the innovative water reuse system, the manufacturer was relieved from the expense of hauling waste water and was also provided with an ecologically friendly solution to its problems. By simply avoiding the high cost of hauling waste water, the manufacturer will be able to recoup its initial investment in less than one year. But the savings are sustainable over time because not only did the facility eliminate its hauling costs, it was also able to greatly reduce its costs for water while having zero impact on the quality of the injectors produced. Meanwhile the waste oils are now transferred to a recycling facility where they can be used as a fuel source - for further recycling savings and good environmental stewardship.
