Five-Axis Cutting Capability Lets the Knuth Hydro-Jet Cut Complex Three-Dimensional Contours Cost-Effectively

WHEELING, ILLINOIS-July 2004-The Hydro-Jet system, offered by Knuth Machine Tools USA, Inc., features five-axis water-jet cutting that produces complex three-dimensional shapes in single-pass operations. The system can operate with either pure water or abrasive-added cutter heads and includes a computer-controlled gantry that guides the Hydro-Jet precisely over work-pieces.

The Knuth USA Hydro-Jet features servomotors and finely tuned drive systems for high performance and low maintenance over a long work life. Modular equipment construction and simple graphic interface programming of PC-based controls translates into minimal downtime and maximum productivity. The Hydro-Jet base is made of stainless steel and includes a regulated water reservoir and four-chamber settling tank with a connector for an abrasive sludge removal system.

Water-jet cutting technology enables precise and cost-effective cutting of stainless steel, marble, granite, glass, ceramic materials and composites, making it a desirable technology for a wide range of industries from automotive and tool-making to construction and electronics. Water-jet cutting produces no thermal stress or hardening of materials; no dust, smoke or toxic fumes. It delivers a small kerf width and clean cut edges with virtually no burrs at relatively high production speeds. Materials ranging from thin films to slabs up to eight inches thick can be cut.

The Hydro-Jet cutter is also available in a basic version with two controlled axes, designed for simpler cutting operations. Other available options include a sensor-controlled height control that ensures constant distance between the water-jet nozzle and the work-piece, and the capability for multiple cutting head operations.
