Plasticolors Offers New Zero VOC and Glycol-Free, Universal Pigment Dispersions for Water-Based Coatings
ASHTABULA, Ohio (February 11, 2002) - Plasticolors Inc. a leading supplier of pigment and chemical dispersions to the paint, coatings, caulk, sealants and plastics industries, introduced a new line of universal, water-based pigment dispersions for paint and coatings formulations. The 50-990 line is composed of 14 single-pigment masstone dispersions, all of which contain zero VOC and are glycol free.
"The newly developed technology consists of finely milled pigments in a blend of water, additives, and a unique binder," said Scott Becker, Plasticolors Chief Operating Officer. "This binder is designed for maximum compatibility and color strength development with minimal impact on the properties of the finished coating.
Through testing, Becker explained, the 50-990 products have proven to have wider compatibility as compared to competitive products recommended for water reducible and industrial aqueous emulsions for air dry and bake systems. "This is especially true with the newer, harder to pigment epoxy chemistries," he said.
During the blending Process, 50-990 pigment dispersions can be easily mixed and incorporated into both high-viscosity water-reducible resins and low-viscosity lattices and resins. All of the 50-990 products are controlled for viscosity to allow for easy adaptation to in-plant tinting machines.
The 50-990 products are designed to meet multiple formulator needs, from traditional aqueous coatings to zero VOC coatings. This means that only one universal water line is needed.
Recommended uses include industrial maintenance coatings, marine coatings, wood coatings, plastic coatings, coil coatings, office furniture finishes, and other high performance protective coatings.
