CHICAGO, April 22 / -- The world's first washing system that incorporates steam technology to clean clothes better, help reduce wrinkles and offer improved energy efficiency and water savings was introduced today by LG Electronics. LG's SteamWasher(TM) with remote monitoring capability enables superior performance, higher energy efficiency and water conservation when compared to traditional machines. LG's entire innovative laundry portfolio, also on display here at the 2006 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, (Booth #7516, North Hall), infuses the latest trends and technologies to enhance consumer convenience and redefine the category.

As the latest addition to LG's laundry portfolio, this ultra-large capacity unit incorporates a unique steam generator that enables superior performance, higher energy efficiency and water conservation when compared to traditional machines. LG's proprietary steam washing technology introduces an entirely new concept of clothing care. Steam can be incorporated into the wash cycle in one of two ways. The first is with the unique 20-minute SteamFresh(TM) Cycle, which uses the power of steam to reduce wrinkles and refresh clothing without the use of water or detergent.
As a second option, consumers can also opt to combine steam with a hot or warm water wash cycle. In normal front-loading washers, water pools in the bottom portion of the machine and clothes rotate in and out of this area during the wash process. With the infusion of steam, clothes are continuously being cleaned throughout the cycle.
The SteamWasher also features one of the largest capacity drums in the industry, at 4.0 cubic feet, and it also has one of the fastest spin speeds at 1320 RPMs, while still offering quiet operation. Sporting a menu-driven control panel with an attractive, blue LCD screen, the SteamWasher offers a multi-lingual option -- English, French and Spanish -- eliminating potential language barriers. The unit's matching dryer features dual humidity sensors, which more accurately detect dampness -- even in small loads -- helping to ensure that clothes are not damp or "overheated" at the end of a cycle.
The SteamWasher line is also designed to work with the award-winning LG Remote Monitoring System. The system allows consumers to monitor cycle progress while they focus on other activities around the home. With a quick glance at the remote monitor, users can see the progress and remaining time on the washing and drying cycles. This system, which utilizes Power Line Communication (PLC) technology, is easy to use and works by simply plugging the monitor into any electrical outlet within the home.
The LG SteamWasher line is available in a white and midnight blue finish at a manufacturer's suggested retail price ranging from $1,499 to $1,599 for the washer, and $1,049 to $1,199 for the dryer. The LG Remote Monitoring Laundry accessory package is available for $99.
