Emerson Motor Technologies Introduces Paint Free Washdown Motor Line for High Humidity Environments

New line designed for maximum water resistance, maintenance ease

St. Louis, Mo., June 10, 2002 - Emerson Motor Technologies has taken the frustration out of finding a washdown motor that resists water entry and rust and can drain condensation with its new paint free washdown motor line. The stainless motors provide extended life in high humidity or wet environments, making it ideal for food, beverage or chemical processing plants.

The most common cause of motor failure in a food processing plant is moisture. Moisture can enter a motor in two ways: directly from the high pressure spray used for cleaning and sanitizing the facility and from humidity in the air. The humidity becomes condensation inside the motor when the motor is cool and its outside environment becomes warmer.

Emerson Motor Technologies' new paint free washdown line is not only designed to resist water entry, but also to drain the condensation. The line boasts the following features to deter moisture and help prevent motor failure:

- "VBX" INPRO/SEAL® - Shaft Seal - Prevents water from entering the motor through the shaft from the high pressure washdown spray. It is a non-friction seal with unlimited life.

- Stainless Steel "T" - Drains - Allow condensation to drain from any mounted position without having to remove or rotate any drain plugs. In addition, "T" - Drains reduce the amount of water that enters through the drain vs. the industry standard screw-type drain.

- Nitrile Conduit Box Gasket (patent pending) with Lead Exit Hole Loctite® Sealed - Allows the conduit box to be rotated 180 degrees without breaking the Loctite seal. The seal prevents water from entering the motor through the conduit box.

- 100 percent Solids Insulation Material - Provides superior moisture resistance to ensure consistent electrical strength.

- Double Sealed Ball Bearings with Moisture Resistant Grease - Reduces bearing failure due to moisture and contaminants.

Additionally, Emerson Motor Technologies' paint free washdown motor line is designed with "maintenance friendly" features that allow motor installation without major modifications to electrical lines or other equipment. Some of the line's maintenance-friendly features include:

- Two Conduit Holes - Coupled with the 180 degree rotatable conduit box, this feature allows the end user to make water-tight line connection from any side of the box. This eliminates the need to have to re-run electrical line connections.

- Threaded Conduit Hole - Allows a water-tight connector to be threaded on the conduit box without a nut on the inside. Reduces the number of parts and saves time.

- Threads 90 Degree Elbow Connector Without Removing Conduit Box - Eliminates the need to have to take the conduit box off the motor to thread the connector on, which saves time.

- Reduced Length - Overall lengths are equal to or less than many of the other washdown motors on the market today. This helps to ensure that the motor will fit in the same space as the motor it is replacing.

- Easy-to-read connection leads make wiring easier.

With the mandate of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) in meat product processing and slaughtering plants, HAACP-friendly products are becoming essential. Emerson Motor Technologies' paint free washdown motor is no exception with its rust- and corrosion-resistant, 300 grade stainless steel surface and laser-etched oversized nameplate. Additionally, the motor frame is smooth so it will not trap food particles that could lead to foodborne illnesses.

"Our paint free washdown motor line is one of the hardest working in the industry," said Rob Boteler, Director of Marketing. "With its state-of-the-art, water-resistant features, and stainless surface, moisture doesn't stand a chance. Plus we have built in several maintenance friendly features that make installing the motor a simple process."

The motors are offered in 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2 and 2 HP. All operate at 1725 RPM on 208-230/460 VAC power. The 1/2 through 1 HP are offered in NEMA 56HC frames, with the 1 through 2 HP ratings offered as 145TC frames. All ratings are equipped with both NEMA C-Face and a Rigid Base and meet the National Electrical Manufacturers Associations' MG1, Part 31 inverter application standard.
