Wash-Boxes are constructed of FRP, not stainless steel.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to handle payloads up to 150 lb, stackable fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite metal parts wash-boxes are engineered to withstand small-parts washing system chemicals. Product is dimensionally stable, cleanable in hot water or steam, withstand temperatures to 350°F, and can be customized to meet unique corrosion specifications. Offered in various sizes, boxes feature ¼ or 3/8 in. dia bottom holes and elongated 2 ½ x 5/16 in. side slots.

All Washed-Up...FRP Wash-Box Takes Stainless Steel To Cleaners

MFG TRAY COMPANY'S FRP METAL PARTS WASH-BOX DELIVERS VERSATILITY, STRENGTH AND SAFETY AT 1/3 COST OF STAINLESS STEEL WIRE BASKETS.

PRODUCT PROFILE:
Linesville, PA -Molded Fiber Glass Tray Company (MFG Tray) has introduced a new line of versatile utility, high-strength fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite metal parts wash-boxes whose composite material construction costs approximately one-third the cost of traditional stainless steel counterparts. Designed to handle heavy payloads (150 lb. capacity), the stackable design wash-box's FRP composition is also engineered to withstand small-part washing system chemicals and provide continuous operation at temperatures to 350°F.

Additionally, they serve a labor saving two-fold use-from secondary process cleaning to work-ins process primary housing. By minimizing the "dumps" from high-speed conveyor-to-container, the FRP wash-box's end result is less labor and reduced part damage/scrap.

FRP FORMING PROCESS / PRODUCTION ADVANTAGES:
MFG Tray utilized composite production method involving a molding process using matched metal die steel compression and sheet molding compound (SMC) materials. This production process provides a quicker turnaround time vs. stainless steel-with an average lead time of 3-4 weeks.

The standard proprietary corrosive formulation is engineered for advanced chemical resistance over oils, grease, degreasing operations, cutting oils, etc. and can be customized per client request to meet advanced corrosion specifications (*Note: See Application reference below). Available in a variety of sizes, the wash-boxes are also easily cleaned in hot water or steam using standard detergents.

The FRP composition provides dimensional stability and consistency for MFG Tray's in-house machining of the wash-box bottom holes (1/4" or 3/8" diameter) and elongated side slots (2-1/2" x 5/16") - which are also available in a variety of sizes for custom-orders. Additionally, the bottom holes allow for the units to be used upside down to hold metal parts upright (i.e.-torch tips, etc.).

Another key end-use advantage of the durable FRP wash-box construction vs. metal wash baskets is safety. The fact is, metal wash baskets frequently break and can leave dangerous wires poking out-which presents an employee safety hazard and could also damage sensitive parts.

APPLICATION / CONCLUSION:
Curtis Screw Company LLC (Buffalo, NY), a leading manufacturer of precision screw machined components and assemblies since 1905, recently adopted the new FRP wash-boxes to great effect for its screw machine cleaning and housing. Purchasing Manager Roy J. Kaczynski noted their value-added versatility stating, "The pans served a dual purpose and they certainly have a long, useful life. There was also no need to subcontract the slot/hole machining."

As part of his job is to save money, Kaczynski sought to increase the box's value by having MFG Tray customize their next order. MFG Tray was able to reconfigure the holes/slots and change the chemical resistance formula to maximize usage against their harsh alkaline mixtures. According to Kaczynski, "MFG Tray provided a turnkey solution as the new holes/slots provided more open space to maximize cleaning and the new formulation provided stronger resistance against the alkaline solution. In fact, to date no boxes have been destroyed."

CORPORATE PROFILE: Established in 1949, Molded Fiber Glass Tray Company (MFG Tray Co.) manufactures reinforced composite trays, containers, and flats used in the confectionery, bakery, food service, pharmaceutical, and electronics industries amonghandling of goods. MFG Tray Co. pioneers practical composite innovations in a variety of applications such as chemical resistance, autoclave or gamma radiation sterilization, degreaser resistance, flame retardant, ergonomic and ESD protection.
