Nuvel Launches New High-Speed Network Data Tunnel--Industry's First Open Software WAN Acceleration Solution

Scalable Enterprise Editions Securely Transfer Data Up to 150 Times Faster Using Existing Hardware, Software, Networks

CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Nuvel, a pioneer in solutions that transform how people connect, communicate and collaborate, announced today its new Network Data Tunnel (NDT), the industry's first open software Wide Area Network (WAN) acceleration solution. Available in three Enterprise Editions, Nuvel's software-only NDT gives organizations a choice of data transfer speeds: up to 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps. What makes these solutions so compelling is the low cost. Nuvel's high-speed tunnel is about 85 to 95 percent less than the average price for a bandwidth upgrade that corresponds with those speeds.

Designed as a manageable service, NDT provides organizations with the ultimate control for deployment, making it ideal for cloud vendors; as well as organizations in the entertainment, legal and medical industries; and telecom providers.

After installing Nuvel's Network Data Tunnel, ReTouch Laboratory (RTL), one of the photography industry's largest specialty labs for photo retouching and editing, estimates it can cut its turnaround time by 75 percent and can build a fully digital workflow for their customers that will deliver clearly superior service.

The professional photo studios and commercial photographers that use RTL's services typically have 50GB projects comprised of 4,000 to 6,000 images. "Last year, when we tested some of the more conventional compression/caching solutions that touted huge speed increases in moving data, we were continually disappointed," said Dennis Lee, one of RTL's founders. "It was taking about 4 hours to move 1GB of .jpg data. Because .jpg data cannot really be compressed, there was no real gain with these solutions. The other day, when we tested moving data from our headquarters in Vancouver to India with Nuvel's NDT, we were able to project it would take less than 1 hour to move 1GB of camera RAW data."

Since NDT uses the existing hardware/software and the existing network architecture (Microsoft, Linux, Apple) as well as SaaS and cloud infrastructures, additional savings are realized. Businesses don't have to incur any new application or appliance costs, don't have to learn new software and don't have to change their way of doing business.

With built-in scalability and flexibility, Nuvel's NDT can scale from a single user to a virtually provisioned solution in a data center. It can also serve multiple clients simultaneously.

Featuring Nuvel patent-pending technology, NDT works by redirecting all data traffic from existing data transfer software into an accelerated data tunnel. The accelerated NDT uses Nuvel proprietary lossless compression and a Nuvel protocol optimization engine that utilizes UDP and proprietary TCP protocols to achieve blazingly fast data transfers.

To ensure that the user's time-sensitive data is securely transported with no speed loss, Nuvel's NDT uses on-the-fly AES encryption--the standard adopted by the U.S. government and approved by the National Security Agency (NSA) for protecting classified information up to the top secret level.

With increasingly scarce bandwidth and high latency, the market for a cost-effective solution that enables businesses to quickly and securely transfer large files is growing exponentially. According to a recent Gartner report entitled "WAN Optimization Controller Vendor Revenue, Worldwide, 2006-2014," the WAN optimization controller market will continue to grow to US $9.83 Billion from 2009-2014 at a compounded annual growth rate of 14.6 percent.

"NDT is unique in that it leverages existing resources and seamlessly integrates with current software," said Randy Hagin, Nuvel Senior Vice President of Sales. "The hardware-based acceleration solutions that are available today require the purchase, installation and maintenance of costly hardware appliances to achieve the same performance that the Nuvel software-only solution provides."

While Nuvel's NDT can speed the production process and reduce costs for any organization, it can be a huge asset for Hollywood content developers whose total product is digital entertainment. They need fast, reliable transport during the production processes to collaborate but speed is even more important when it comes to their broad range of distribution channels - theaters, broadcasters, consumer TVs/tablets/computers/ smartphones.
