Advantech Launches the UbiQ-480 Wall-Mount Touch-Computer for eHome Applications

Irvine, California, - Advantech, a leading provider of intelligent building and eHome devices, announces today the launch of its UbiQ-480 wall-mount touch computer. Designed for eHome applications such as appliance control, remote room monitoring and multi-media, the UbiQ-480 can be stylishly integrated into any room with an assortment of detachable, customizable color faceplates.

The UbiQ-480 features a powerful built-in FreeScale i.MX31 CPU running Microsoft Windows® CE 5.0. Its 7" touch-screen, with its 16:9 true-color TFT LCD panel, provides crisp graphical performance. A built-in camera, speaker and microphone allow the UbiQ-480 to function as an intercom, facilitating communication throughout a building via direct analog audio interface or LAN. WiFi and IR capability make remote control of the unit simple and easy. Finally, the variety of the UbiQ-480's I/O interfaces, such as LAN, RS-232, RS-485, USB, DI/O and easily programmable hotkeys increase its expansion flexibility significantly.

The use of home automation technology such as the UbiQ-480 is predicted to soon become as commonplace as owning a DVD player. Via such technology, one's audio, video, home theatre, security, lighting, blind, garage door and air conditioning units can be integrated and operated remotely at the touch of a button. A person can turn on air conditioning remotely from work so as to return to a cool home after a hard day's work. Additionally, one can remotely operate lights and sound while away to give the appearance that a home is occupied.
