Phihong Develops 15W Wall Adapter With Interchangeable AC Clips

FREMONT, Calif. (March 30, 2005) - Phihong USA, a global leader in electronic accessories and power supplies, has developed a 15Watt wall plug adapter with interchangeable AC clips that will help minimize inventory and development costs for OEMs. Designated the PSA15R, the adapter is highly efficient, lightweight and small in size, weighing about 5.12 oz., and is smaller than a standard business card.
"The 15Watt adapters allow manufacturers to develop and produce one top assembly piece, and then configure the clips depending on where the adapter will be distributed," explained Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. "The new design also enables OEMs to approve only one product design, which can then be used for distribution in any country in the world, with output voltages between 5V and 48V."
The 15Watt adapters are ideal for low power electronic products including Cable/DSL Routers, Access points, Multimedia IP Phones, security cameras, battery chargers, Credit card validation and other professional electronic device applications.
The adapters are available at a competitive cost; since only one top assembly part number is required, it reduces the OEM's cost of stocking multiple finished items for various geographic destinations. Also, conventional fixed blade adapters require safety and EMC testing, approval and evaluation. By taking only one product through this process, as opposed to the typical four to five different versions, development time and cost is significantly reduced.
The universal input and interchangeable clip adapter plugs enable the power supply to be connected to virtually any power outlet in the world and simplifies inventory and approvals with a single part number. AC Clips are available for the United States, Europe, United Kingdom, China, Argentina and Australia.
The adapter, like most of Phihong's products, meets Energy Star® specifications and has received safety approvals from cUL/UL, TUV, SAA, CE, C-Tick and CCC (except for 48V). The PSA15R has no-load power consumption of less than 0.5W. It also has low leakage current, with a maximum of 0.25mA.
Typical pricing for the plug adapters starts at $9.88 in quantities of 1,000. The AC clips are sold separately. Lead times are Stock to 12 weeks.
