Batch Oven Cures Powder on Aircraft Components

Wisconsin Oven Corporation's Natural Gas Fired, Heavy Duty, Walk-In Batch Oven, a Model SWH-9279-G, was designed for use in a job shop where the main powder coated product was assorted aircraft components. It has a clear work chamber size of 9'0" wide x 27'0" long x 9'0" high, with overall dimensions of approximately 12'6" wide x 28'0" long x 14'0" high.

This powder-curing SWH has a maximum continuous temperature rating of 500° F. The oven body is fabricated with 4" thick tongue and groove panel assemblies. The interior sheet metal and ductwork feature aluminized sheet metal, which is a bonded finish that is impervious to corrosion, flaking, peeling, etc. (under normal operating conditions).

This oven included standard bi-parting doors at the front. The main doors included ball bearing hinges and FM approved explosion relief latches, as well as notches above the main doors to allow the customer to install an overhead trolley system inside the work chamber. For ease of conveyor rail installation, all necessary structural supports were included and installed inside the work chamber by Wisconsin Oven Corporation prior to shipment.

There were also two (2) sets of 4' wide x 7' high "Dutch" doors at the rear of the oven to allow the customer access to the work chamber from the rear of the curing oven.

The burner (rated for 1.5 MBTUH) and the recirculation blower (rated for 18,500 CFM @ 20 HP) were located in a roof-mounted heater house. This equipment was designed to provide combination type airflow through the work chamber, where heated air is delivered through a fully adjustable duct located on each side of the work chamber, near the bottom. This ensures uniform heat distribution throughout the interior. The oven temperature uniformity was certified at +/- 8 F at the normal operating temperature of 380 F.

A roof-mounted powered exhaust blower was provided to dilute the products of combustion and the powder constituents from the chamber during heating.

The instruments and controls were located in an oven-mounted NEMA 12 control enclosure, and included a digital Honeywell UDC2300 temperature controller with auto-tune, a digital Barber-Colman 7SL high limit controller, and all other components as required to comply with the requirements and recommendations of NFPA, NEC, FM & IRI.

This equipment was fully factory assembled, tested at maximum operating temperature, and quality assurance checked for proper operation.

In addition to this model, we have 70 standard sizes available in either gas or electric heat. A product bulletin for the SWH can be downloaded at wisoven.com/Batchovenheavyduty.htm. Custom sizes and designs to meet your specific needs are available upon request.

Other typical applications were this oven could be used include: curing water-based and solvent-based paints; varnish and epoxy curing; aging; bonding; composite curing; and drying.
