Vytran to Demonstrate Prototype Large Diameter Fiber Splicer at CLEO: Expo 2010

"LFS-4000" to be featured at Booth #1324 May 18-20 in San Jose, California

Morganville, New Jersey, - Vytran, an innovative supplier of optical fiber processing solutions, will demonstrate a prototype "LFS-4000" optical fiber splicer at its Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO): Expo 2010 booth (#1324) from May 18-20 in San Jose, California. A dedicated process tool for splicing standard, large-diameter and specialty fibers, the LFS-4000 has been designed for volume production of fiber assemblies for fiber laser, sensing, medical device, fiber optic gyroscope and fiber-based instrumentation applications.

"LFS-4000 is intended for manufacturers that want the splicing performance of our proven filament fusion multi-function splicing and glass processing products, but from a stand alone tool with a very intuitive and simplified operator interface," said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. "It's aimed at applications such as fiber laser manufacturing, where production technicians must make several precision splices per fiber assembly unit in high volumes. LFS-4000 provides the low-loss splicing critical for fiber lasers from an easy to use tool."

Pelaprat further added, "The LFS-4000 and our GPX-3400 glass processor, a well-proven product for the design and manufacture of fiber-based fused components, are two complementary pieces of equipment for fiber laser assemblies fundamental research as well as product development and volume manufacturing. Both products are also fully compatible with our LDC-200-G and LDC-400 fiber cleavers."

LFS-4000 uses Vytran's filament fusion technology to produce low-loss splices on fibers ranging from 125 to 900 microns in diameter. It can be used for standard and specialty fibers such as doped fibers, polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, photonic crystal fiber (PCF), highly stressed fibers and D shapes. Its PC-based software features two complementary interfaces - one tailored for product development that allows all of the unit's functionalities, and another simplified interface that allows only basic operation for volume manufacturing. Vytran plans to make the LFS-4000 available at the beginning of Q3.

Vytran's complete product lineup includes fully integrated workstations and discrete process tools for optical fiber stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, recoating and testing. At its CLEO: Expo booth, Vytran will show its full range of optical fiber processing products for research, sensing and medical applications, including its GPX-3000 series of glass processors, PTR-200 series of fiber recoaters and proof testers, and the FFS-2000 splicing workstation. For added convenience, attendees may schedule booth appointments through Jim Stathis, Vytran business development manager. He can be reached at jstathis@vytran.com.
