Improves Database Performance and Enables Deployment of Larger Oracle Database Clusters; Postbank Deploys Solution for Retail Banking Application
ORACLE OPENWORLD, San Francisco, Calif. - November 12, 2007 - Voltaire Ltd. (NASDAQ: VOLT), a leading provider of grid backbone solutions for the data center, today announced that its InfiniBand-based solutions are available for Oracle® Real Application Clusters 11g. The combination of Oracle Real Application Clusters running on Voltaire's InfiniBand-based switches and software delivers faster application-level performance than clusters using Ethernet. The solution also enables greater scalability so customers can deploy larger Oracle Database clusters than ever before.
Postbank, one of the largest retail banks in Germany and a beta customer of the latest release of Oracle Real Applications Clusters, has tested their cash withdrawal processing application running on HP Proliant servers interconnected with a Voltaire Grid Switch(TM) 20 Gigabits/second InfiniBand switch. Postbank's application, which relies heavily on the performance of the cluster interconnect, has experienced a 50 percent boost in performance using the combined Oracle-Voltaire solution.(*)
"We are very pleased with the performance and scalability that Voltaire InfiniBand brings to Oracle Real Application Clusters in our large Oracle Database environment," said Jens-Christian Pokolm, Analyst IT Services, Postbank. "To deliver the best and most reliable service to our customers, our applications demand fast access to data and this solution truly delivers. An important capability this solution provides is the ability to eliminate latency and scale our Oracle Database applications."
"We are pleased to work with Voltaire to bring the industry standard OpenFabrics Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) over InfiniBand solution to the Oracle database environment," said Juan Loaiza, Senior Vice President, Oracle. "We believe that the OpenFabrics effort is crucial to the success of high performance networking protocols and applaud Voltaire's support of this effort."
The OpenFabrics Alliance is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to expanding and accelerating the adoption of RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) technologies for server and storage connectivity. Voltaire has played a major role in the OpenFabrics Alliance which led to the inclusion of InfiniBand software in several operating systems including Linux, Windows and others.
"Aside from providing significantly faster run-time, the combination of Oracle Real Application Clusters and Voltaire InfiniBand enables the deployment of database clusters that can run larger data sets for both data warehousing and transactional applications," said Asaf Somekh, Vice President of Strategic Alliances, Voltaire. "This solution fits in nicely with the consolidation programs many data centers are now implementing."
"HP ProLiant servers deliver leading performance and scalability for enterprise data center customers, and Oracle solutions on InfiniBand deliver the performance gains and improved scalability customers want with their applications," said John Gromala, director of ProLiant product marketing, Industry Standard Servers, HP.
