Voltage Surge Suppressor suits broadband communication lines.

Press Release Summary:

SP03-6 Silicon Overvoltage Protection Array combines TVS device with diode rectifier bridge to provide longitudinal (common mode) and differential protection in one package, suppressing both positive and negative voltage surges. It has reverse standoff voltage of 6 V, and clamps surges to 15 V under 50 A surge current conditions (20 V at 100 A surge). Unit is designed for data lines and interface circuits in Ethernet, T3/E3, DS3, ADSL2+, and VDSL2+ systems.

Littelfuse Introduces Silicon Overvoltage Protection Array for Broadband Communication Lines and Interfaces

SP03-6 provides higher surge rating and better clamping than competing devices, and a multi-element design that lowers capacitive losses compared to TVS devices alone.

DES PLAINES, IL - May 8, 2008 - Littelfuse, Inc. today announced a new type of overvoltage suppression device for data lines and interface circuits in Ethernet, T3/E3, DS3, ADSL2+, and VDSL2+ systems. The SP03-6 combines a transient voltage suppression (TVS) device with a diode rectifier bridge to provide both longitudinal (common mode) and differential protection in one package, suppressing both positive and negative voltage surges. This design innovation results in low insertion loss and a log-linear capacitive loading characteristic with respect to the signal voltage across the device. The result is reduced intermodulation (IM) distortion compared to typical solid-state protection solutions for high-speed data lines.

The SP03-6 has a reverse standoff voltage of 6V, and clamps surges to 15V under 50A surge current conditions (20V at 100A surge). Its peak surge rating is 150A or 2800W (8/20µs waveform). A low clamping voltage for both common mode and differential surge conditions means there is less stress on the protected equipment, and more robust equipment equates to longer life. Input capacitance at 1MHz is typically 16pF (25pF max.), resulting in low attenuation and better line balance for high-speed data.

The SP03-6 meets the requirements of the following standards:
IEC 61000-4-5: (Lightning) 150A (8/20µs waveform)
Bellcore GR1089: (Intra-Building) 100A (2/10µs waveform)
ITU K.20: Ipp =40A (5/310µs waveform)
IEC 61000-4-2: (ESD) 15kV (air), 8kV (contact)
RoHS (Restrictions On Hazardous Substances) compliance

Availability.
The SP03-6 is available in SO-8 (MS 012) Surface Mount Packaging. OEM samples are available from stock. Tape and reel orders typically ship 8-10 weeks ARO, and come in reel pack quantities of 2500 for efficient, low-cost circuit board installation.
