New Microchip Technology Voltage Supervisors Offer Watchdog Timer, Manual Reset, Push-pull/Open-drain Reset Outputs, and Factory Trip-points in SOT-23 Package

Devices operate from -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius, making them ideal for automotive and industrial applications

CHANDLER, Ariz., Jan. 16, 2006 [NASDAQ: MCHP] - Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced a family of ten new voltage supervisors: the MCP1316, MCP1316M, MCP1317, MCP1318, MCP1318M, MCP1319, MCP1319M, MCP1320, MCP1321 and MCP1322. These voltage supervisors offer a watchdog timer, manual reset, multiple combinations of push-pull or open-drain reset outputs, and factory trip-points from 2.0V to 4.7V in 100 mV increments, all in a small, 5-pin SOT-23 package. The devices operate within the extended industrial temperature range of -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius and are ideal for automotive and industrial applications.

The MCP1316 - MCP1322 voltage supervisors monitor microprocessor activity in digital systems. They operate at input voltages as low as 1.0V up to 5.5V, consume very little power (5 µA typical) and offer a wide range of trip points between 2.0V and 4.7V. All of these features in their small package enable the MCP13XX voltage supervisors to increase design efficiency and flexibility, as well as reduce overall system costs.

"The MCP1316 - MCP1322 voltage supervisors incorporate several attractive features on a single chip, resulting in enhanced design flexibility, reduced board space, and lower system costs," said John Austin, senior product marketing engineer with Microchip's Analog and Interface Products Division. "These devices are among only a few on the market guaranteed to operate within the extended industrial temperature range, making them excellent solutions for automotive, industrial and many other applications."

In addition to automotive and industrial applications, the MCP1316-MCP1322 voltage supervisors are appropriate for many consumer applications, such as portable and handheld computing devices, plasma screen TVs and DVD players. The new devices complement Microchip's PIC® microcontrollers to help create a total embedded system solution.
