Overview
The versatile voice processing platform WebSphere® Voice Response for AIX®, V3.1 with DirectTalk® Technology now supports operation with the IBM Quad Digital Trunk PCI Telephony Adapter (DTTA). The DTTA connects WebSphere Voice Response for AIX to the telephone network and supersedes the IBM ARTIC960RxD Quad Digital Trunk PCI Adapter (DTXA)(#6310), which includes some technology components that will soon no longer be available in the industry.

For further information on the DTTA, refer to Hardware Announcement 103-225 , dated August 26, 2003.

The DTTA (#6312) is functionally equivalent to the DTXA (#6310). Existing voice applications will still run on the DTTA, but it provides new onboard technology and microcode, offering a basis for future functional enhancement. DTXA remains available as an MES order, while stocks are still available, for customers wanting to extend the number of ports in existing installations. DTTA and DTXA will not be supported in the same system unit.

Description
The WebSphere Voice Response family of products includes WebSphere Voice Response for AIX, WebSphere Voice Response for Windows NT® and Windows® 2000, and Unified Messaging for WebSphere Voice Response. This announcement relates to new telephony adapter support for WebSphere Voice Response for AIX.

The IBM Quad Digital Trunk PCI Telephony Adapter (DTTA) (#6312 and #6313 with integral cassette) is a full-size, 32-bit or 64-bit PCI adapter. The assembly consists of a base and daughter card; however, the field replaceable unit (FRU) is the total assembly.

The adapter is functionally equivalent to the IBM ARTIC960RxD Quad Digital Trunk PCI Adapter (DTXA) (#6310). Customers' existing voice applications will run unchanged.

The adapter, using WebSphere Voice Response for AIX software enhancements, allows:

Connection of the PCI bus of the pSeries computer to the voice processing function of the adapter.

Voice processing using digital signal processors (DSPs), enabling such functions as voice compression and tone detection.

Interfacing of the voice processor to the digital telephony trunk. One adapter can support up to four T1 (100 ohm) or E1 (120 ohm) digital trunk interfaces. The adapter provides four RJ-45/RJ-48C sockets for connecting user-supplied cables. DTTA does not support the E1 75 ohm interface, for which a customer-supplied external balun is required.

The adapter also has an H.100 interface connection, the industry standard for the interconnection of telephony adapters in PCI systems. This interface is used to synchronize clocks when multiple adapters are installed, and to support functions such as voice recognition, fax, and channel-to-channel connection (tromboning).

All functional code for the DTTA adapter is provided by WebSphere Voice Response for AIX, V3.1, with PTF U487309, and is downloaded when WebSphere Voice Response is started.

WebSphere Voice Response for AIX (5724-C35) is purchased separately.
