Ditech Communications Announces Integrated Voice Quality Management(TM) for VoIP

VQM(TM) VoIP Performance Monitoring on the Ditech Packet Voice Processor Gives Service Providers Unprecedented Visibility Into Actual Subscriber Calling Experience With a Powerful Tool to Pinpoint Sources of Quality Impairments

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 15 / -- At Spring VON 2006, Ditech Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:DITC), a leader in the development of voice processing solutions for communications networks, announced integrated Voice Quality Management (VQM(TM)) for its Packet Voice Processor, an advanced border services platform designed to enable carriers to deploy toll-quality end-to-end IP Communication services. The VQM(TM) performance monitoring technology broadens the border services capabilities of the Packet Voice Processor to allow service providers to actively select live traffic sessions for continuous voice quality monitoring of the actual calling experience of the subscriber while performing functions required on VoIP and IMS network borders such as codec transcoding and voice quality enhancement.

Ditech's VQM provides an unparalleled approach to voice quality measurements on live calls because it monitors and reports on a comprehensive set of real-time measurements for each call, across broad set of voice quality impairments including those specific to IP networks such as packet loss, packet delay, and packet jitter. Uniquely, VQM also measures speech impairments including hybrid echo, acoustic echo, varying voice levels, and background noise, and combines the data to estimate a Mean Opinion Score (MOS) that more accurately reflects the actual subscriber listening experience on each call. The unprecedented visibility offered by VQM allows the service provider to proactively adjust network quality issues and improve call quality with information beyond basic network performance statistics.

Ditech's VQM dramatically simplifies voice quality measurement by using SIP-based signaling, breaking the dependency on deploying probes on every network interface. This active-selection capability allows carriers to manage network voice quality at their choice of key network junctions, therefore saving on operational and capital expenditures.

"Voice over IP deployments introduce new voice quality challenges into communications networks that impact the perception of call quality in new ways. Recent industry surveys indicate that the presence of these impairments is a major factor of poor customer perception and slower service adoption," said Tim Montgomery, president and CEO of Ditech Communications. "Ditech's VQM, built into the Packet Voice Processor, will fulfill a much desired, yet unfulfilled, need to have comprehensive visibility into voice quality in all VoIP network deployments and supports the goal of delivering a superior service experience with Voice-over-IP."
