Vodafone Approves Global Operation of Kontron M2M Smart Services Developer Kit on Its Cellular Networks

Verified cellular communication behavior reduces customers R&D costs

Eching, Germany- Kontron announces that the M2M Smart Services Developer Kit has passed the extensive 2G/3G tests carried out by the Vodafone Test & Innovation Center and is approved to operate globally on Vodafone cellular networks with immediate effect. OEMs can use this application-ready Machine-to-Machine platform to connect their distributed systems via GSM-based 2G/3G networks to the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and to embedded cloud applications. Thanks to these verified cellular communication characteristics, OEMs benefit from the wide-spread reach of Vodafone network for the M2M connection of their applications as well as from the powerful processing capability of the M2M smart edge platform.

"Alongside the PTCRB certification, which our M2M Smart Services Developer Kits already have, the Vodafone certification is a decisive factor for our global OEM customers as it enables quick and cost-efficient market introduction of their cloud-based remote supervision & management appliances", Kevin Rhoads, Vice President, Embedded Products Business Unit at Kontron, explains. "Customers are thus in a position to deploy our M2M Smart Services Developer Kit globally. We continue to offer wider deployment options for our customers with cellular connectivity on various Tier 1 carriers worldwide".

The Kontron M2M Smart Services Developer Kit offers scalable processor performance via Computer-on-Modules and an optional extension for demanding audio-video smart services over M2M. The kit's 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and 802.15.4 WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) support rapid development of applications with local wireless connectivity. Cellular network connection to the cloud applications is offered with pre-installed 3G WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network), which can be extended for higher bandwidth applications via a 4G module. With its modular approach of the well-proven production-ready COTS Small Form Factor Platform, the Kontron M2M developer kit enables OEMs and smart services developers as well as independent software suppliers (ISVs) to reduce development costs and risks and ensures a rapid introduction to the market.
