700MHz Pentium(R) III VMEbus Processor Now Available From Xycom Automation


Saline, MI - December 3, 2001 - Xycom Automation, Inc., a market leader in industrial VMEbus products, expands the capabilities of the XVME-660 PC processor module family with the release of a 700MHz Pentium® III processor. The XVME-660 is an unbeatable two-slot 6U VMEbus PC-compatible processor module with Industry Pack (IP) and PMC on-board expansion sites. The integrated 700MHz processor allows users to take advantage of the powerful multiprocessing capability of the VMEbus while using standard off-the-shelf PC software and operating systems.

The XVME-660 module contains a wide breadth of I/O, including PCI EIDE, Ultra SCSI, Ethernet controller, one Universal Bus (USB) port, two high-speed serial ports, one EPP/ECP parallel port, and PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports. The XVME-660 has one PMC site and one IP site for I/O expansion. These sites allow easy I/O expansion without the use of an additional carrier board. If further expansion is required, Xycom Automation's XVME-976 expansion modules can be used to add additional PMC or PC/104 modules. The XVME-660 features a high-performance, highly integrated Intel chipset that incorporates a host-to-PCIbus interface and a PCI-to-ISA bridge. For display support, it uses a high- performance Chips and Technologies AGP graphics controller. The network foundation contains a state-of-the-art Intel® 82559ER 10/100 Mbit Ethernet controller with a 32-bit PCI bus- mastering interface to sustain bus transfers of 100 Mbits per second.
