Vitria Technology, Inc. Expands Web Service and SOA Capabilities in BusinessWare

Vitria's Business Process Integration Platform Supports Service Discovery and Registration Through Interoperability With UDDI-Compliant Service Registries

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 19 / -- Vitria Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:VITR), a leading provider of Business Process Integration solutions, today announced that BusinessWare® now supports Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) version 3, the open standard for discovering and publishing network-based software components in a service-oriented architecture (SOA).

This capability provides direct access to UDDI-compliant service registries from within BusinessWare's development environment to facilitate enterprise-wide reuse of software components. Industry experts cite component reuse as a primary advantage of the SOA approach because it can significantly reduce the complexity, implementation cost, deployment time, and maintenance effort for integration projects.

"Seamless interoperability with third party service registries strongly complements BusinessWare's other SOA capabilities," said Eric Boduch, Vitria's vice president of marketing. "UDDI support will help companies more effectively use and reuse new services that they create with BusinessWare, plus they can more easily apply our industry-leading integration and process orchestration capabilities to other service components across their enterprise."

UDDI version 3 has been ratified as an approved standard by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), a not-for-profit, international consortium that drives the development, convergence, and adoption of e-business standards. The UDDI standard specifies protocols for creating a registry for web services, methods for controlling access to the registry, and a mechanism for distributing or delegating records to other registries.

With UDDI support, BusinessWare now provides a more complete set of capabilities for using services in business process integration projects:

o Service Enablement, Publishing, and Reuse: Use BusinessWare to
non-invasively integrate with existing applications and data
sources, componentize their business logic into definable services, expose these services for use outside BusinessWare, and publish service descriptions and invocation specifications to central service registries.

o Service Discovery and Consumption: Search centrally-maintained
services registries for descriptions of available services and use this data to invoke selected services in business processes managed by BusinessWare.

o Service Integration and Orchestration: Aggregate services from
multiple sources inside and outside BusinessWare, orchestrate
services with each other and with event-driven and batch-oriented components, and publish the resulting process elements to service registries for general use.

UDDI support is available now in BusinessWare version 4.3.2, which also includes improved monitoring capabilities as well as support for new versions of selected J2EE application servers and web servers, operating systems, and databases.
