Starrett Introduces Powerful, Compact Easy-To-Use Vision System

New system provides live camera feed and auto-edge detection at affordable price.

ATHOL, MASSACHUSETTS U.S.A (July 5, 2006) - The L.S. Starrett Co. today announced the introduction of "Galileo EZ," an affordable, compact manual vision system featuring live video camera feed and automatic edge detection via the new Metronics QC300 Digital Readout, high quality optics and more. The Galileo EZ is an ideal video based measurement solution for general purpose QA inspection, manufacturing and R&D non-contact measurement applications. It is a natural upgrade from a comparator, without the complexity of PC-based software.

The Galileo EZ features a precision mechanical bearing with an (X-Y-Z) measuring stage of 8"x4"x6" (200x100x150mm) or 12"x6"x5" (300x150x125mm), 6 to 1 zoom video optics, a dual-output 150 watt fiber-optic illumination for the fiber-optic ring light and collimated substage light.

A key component of the EZ system is the new Metronics QC300 Digital Readout that is loaded with leading-edge features. Mr. Simon Cosham, Metrology Systems Division Manager explains, "The QC300 clearly shows X-Y-Z digital readout display and measurement data, while a built-in video card supports a live video camera image. It also allows video edge detection that automatically detects and targets edge points by scanning the image area within a circle around the crosshairs on the display, eliminating operator subjectivity."

The QC300 greatly increases system accuracy and repeatability, increasing measuring throughput and reducing operator error. Galileo EZ is also compatible with the industry standard QC200 Readout System.

System accuracy of E1 = 2.5+7L/100 and X-Y resolution of .00002" (.0005mm) is also ensured by the stable granite base design .1/2-micron resolution scales are standard and the system is calibrated and certified for accuracy. The maximum workload for Galileo EZ is 20 lbs (9kg). On a 15" monitor, zoom magnification is 6.5 to 1 (approximately 25x to 150x). EZ System options include ½x to 2x auxiliary lenses, 150mm line standard for system calibration verification, co-axial illumination and a 3-light illuminator.

Since it's founding nearly 125 years ago, The L.S. Starrett Company has earned a reputation as the world's pre-eminent supplier of precision measuring tools and equipment.
