Visible Fault Locator suits fiber-optic cables.

Press Release Summary:

Model VLF-275 allows operator to identify break, micro bend, or other discontinuity in fiber-optic cable. As 650 nm radiation is visible, light emanating from break or micro bend enables user to locate exact position of fault, even at very short distances. Stabilized, battery-operated unit includes provision for coupling laser output to connected fiber. Output power is 0.5-1 mW single mode and 1.0-2.0 mW multimode.

TTI Introduces the VLF-275 Visible Fault Locator

Oriskany, New York, February 23, 2004: The VLF-275 Visible Laser Fault Locator is battery operated (with standard external wall mount power supply), stabilized, visible laser diode optical source with provision for coupling the laser output to a connected fiber. Its intended function is to allow an operator to identify the exact location of a break, micro bend, or other discontinuity in a fiber optic cable. As the radiation is visible (650 nm), light emanating from a break or micro bend enables the user to locate the exact position of a fault even at very short distances that would not be detectable by conventional means such as Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers, (OTDR). It is also useful for identifying a particular fiber in a cable by exciting the fiber to be located with visible radiation.
