Vishay Intertechnology's VCNL4020X01 Honored With 2014 EEPW Editor's Choice Award
MALVERN, Pa. —Â Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that the company's VCNL4020X01 AEC-Q101-qualified, fully integrated proximity and ambient light optical sensor has received a 2014 Editor's Choice Award from Electronic Engineering Product World magazine (EEPW), one of China's leading electronics industry publications.
The annual EEPW Editor's Choice Award program is open to electronic suppliers worldwide. Winners of Top Electronic Products, Top Electronic Innovation, and Top Electronic Achievement awards were determined by online voting and rigorous review by EEPW editors, experts, and engineers. Featuring an industry-high operating temperature range to +105 °C and the lowest package height on the market, Vishay's VCNL4020X01 received the Top Electronic Innovation Award in the "Best Sensor" category.
The VCNL4020X01 combines an IR emitter, a photo-pin-diode for proximity, an ambient light detector, a signal processing IC, and a 16-bit ADC in one small 4.8 mm x 2.3 mm x 0.8 mm rectangular lead-less (LLP) package. The three-in-one sensor features an interrupt function, supports I²C bus communication interfaces, and greatly simplifies window and sensor placement in a wide variety of applications.
For automotive dashboard displays and mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, PDAs, and GPS units, the VCNL4020X01 saves power as a proximity sensor by turning off the display backlight until a user is detected while using its integrated ambient light function for display/keypad adaptive brightness control and rearview mirror dimming. Containing all the circuitry needed for these applications in one device, the VCNL4020X01 eliminates the need for additional light barriers and optical alignment of the IR emitter and photo diode.
The 2014 Editor's Choice Awards were presented during a ceremony at EEPW's Smart Hardware Forum in Beijing on Dec. 12. Tony He, Regional Marketing Manager at Vishay's Beijing office, was on hand to accept the award.
