Vishay Intertechnology Congratulates Nelson Piquet Jr. on Winning FIA Formula E Championship

MALVERN, Pa. – Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) extends its congratulations to Nelson Piquet Jr. for winning the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship racing series. Piquet, a native of Brazil and son of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, drove for the NEXTEV TCR China Racing team — co-sponsored by Vishay in partnership with Mouser Electronics — which finished fourth overall in the team standings.

Over the course of the 11-race Formula E Championship season, Piquet took home the checkered flag in Long Beach, California, and Moscow — earning a 17-point lead heading into the finale in London. In a thrilling race, he clawed his way to a seventh-place finish to clinch the drivers' championship by one point ahead of runner-up Sebastien Buemi.

Featuring cars powered exclusively by electricity, the FIA Formula E Championship is making a big impact in bringing the issue of sustainability to a wide audience. The global racing series represents a vision for the future of the motor sports industry over the coming decades, and it serves as a framework for research and development around electric vehicles.

Beyond its co-sponsorship of the NEXTEV TCR team, Vishay offers a wide range of industry-leading components used in full electric vehicles (FEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). These include the Vishay Dale Thin Film PATT series of precision automotive high-temperature thin film chip resistors for efficient battery management. The WSHM2828 Power Metal Strip® series is ideal for monitoring power from the battery to the motor or for regenerative braking. Power Metal Strip technology is a leading technology in all battery management applications due to the superior performance of low TCR and thermal EMF in ultra-low resistance values.

Vishay Dale IHLP® and IHTH low-profile, high-current power inductors increase reliability in electric vehicles by replacing ferrite solutions that are not only larger, but also less stable over temperature and current variations.

The Vishay Siliconix medium-voltage, automotive-grade SQJ402EP ThunderFET® MOSFET in the PowerPAK® SO-8L is part of the DC/DC conversion circuitry in battery charging/discharging control modules. Its low on-resistance and on-resistance times gate charge FOM — which are among the lowest for devices featuring 5 mm by 6 mm packages — provide higher efficiency, a key to extending battery life.
