Attune Systems Launches NAS Virtualization Appliance with Unmatched Functionality

Network File Management Solution Slashes Operating Costs, Optimizes Legacy Resources and Provides Low-Risk Deployment

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 9 / Attune Systems, Inc., a provider of enterprise-class Network File Management (NFM) solutions, today announced the Maestro File Manager(TM) FM5500(TM), providing unique and powerful new NFM functionality combined with the easiest and lowest-risk deployment options available on the market today. The solution dramatically reduces the complexity and cost of managing heterogeneous file server and file data resources without disrupting users or requiring risky cut-over deployments.

"With its launch of the Maestro File Manager, Attune raises the bar of functionality for effective NFM solutions," said Brad O'Neill, senior analyst, Taneja Group. "I was impressed that they not only have come to market with some powerful new functionality, but they also provide simple, incremental and low-risk deployment. Attune will definitely get enterprise customers' attention with the flexibility and capabilities of this offering."

Maestro minimizes the deployment risk, because it allows system administrators to incrementally deploy new, robust virtualization capabilities across their existing file server and NAS infrastructure by supporting three concurrent operational stages, including out-of-band discovery, native mode and extended mode. The solution preserves the client view of their content while providing significant cost saving policy-based management, in-depth resource discovery, alerts, reporting and proactive intervention to avoid disruption and preserve business continuity in a fashion that no other product can today. Maestro also provides important capabilities, including data consolidation, server retirement, automated NAS and file server tiering, global namespace, file server load balancing, and pooling in a unique and non-disruptive fashion.

"IT administrators are continuously looking for ways to manage their file servers while adding capacity and migrating data. The Maestro File Manager goes further in simplifying file storage management than any other NFM product on the market by virtualizing both files and shares across heterogeneous vendors and protocols," stated Alan Kessler, chief executive officer, Attune Systems. "For customers, this ultimately results in simpler management, higher service levels and lower cost. For resellers, the flexible scripting engine allows them to customize the platform for value-added services. Also, the discovery part alone is a door opener. They can go to their clients' sites, run the discovery tool and show them the management capabilities."

Customer and Reseller Reaction
Raymond Lockley, Senior System Administrator at Interwoven, a Provider of Enterprise Content Management Solutions

"Interwoven's datacenters have more than 225 heterogeneous file storage resources, including Windows, NetApp NAS devices, and more, totaling 6 TB of data spread across seven locations world-wide. The ability to move data around to optimize resource utilization and contain costs without impacting our complex end-user environment and end-user productivity is critical. We looked at the other NFM vendors over the past year, and, after extensive research and testing, found that Attune was more scalable, and had a superior, low-risk deployment methodology. In general, the other players are more complicated to deploy and require a high all-in investment that makes them too risky in our mission-critical environment. We gave products in this space a hard look under the hood and Attune is clearly solving an important problem the right way. The Maestro's low-risk, incremental deployment is also a unique and important capability when introducing a new technology such as this. It sealed the deal for us."

Gabi Abdo, IT Director at VCC, One of the Top Five National Contractors with Expertise in Retail Construction and Renovation

"Because of our continual data growth, the distributed nature of our storage resources, and the insufficient tools available today for understanding, managing and enforcing data management policies, it has been impossible to plan for coordinated growth while optimizing the use of our existing resources. We need a scalable and low-cost way to manage the expanding content in our file storage environment. Using the Maestro File Manager, we can automatically align our ever-changing data requirements with the appropriate tier of underlying storage resources. This allows us to tier and manage our file data on our heterogeneous storage resources in a simple and automated fashion, delivering an incredible return on investment. Attune not only provides terrific time and cost savings for us, but also gives us back control and understanding of our file usage. "

Yaser E. Wassef, COO of The Harding Group, System Integrator
"We are really impressed with Attune's Maestro File Manager and its highly responsive team. We've had an incredibly painless deployment and we found management to be very easy and intuitive. Attune's solution would be a great fit for any medium to large companies that wish to reap additional benefits from their existing storage resources."
