ViewRay to Showcase Its MRIdian System in Booth 639 at 2014 Medical Physics Meeting

MRI-Guided Radiation Therapy Selected as Hot Topic for Largest Annual Gathering of Medical Physicists

CLEVELAND - ViewRay™ Incorporated, a privately held medical device company, will be featuring its MRIdian™ (me-rid-i-an) system in booth 639 at the 2014 annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), which will be held July 20-24 in Austin, TX.

The MRIdian system - the world's first and only MRI-guided radiation therapy system - is designed to improve the accuracy of cancer treatments through a patented combination of simultaneous Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and radiation therapy delivery. With continuous soft-tissue imaging, clinicians can clearly see the cancer target, monitor where the actual radiation dose is being delivered, and adapt to changes in the patient's anatomy - all in real time, providing a more precise and personalized cancer treatment option.

AAPM, the largest association of medical physicists in the world, has selected six "hot topics" for its 2014 annual meeting, including MRI-guided radiation therapy. The topic will be highlighted in several tracks during the conference including a session titled MRI in the Treatment Room, featuring early adopters of the MRIdian system from Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University School of Medicine, which will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 17A.  Ten abstracts from Siteman focused on research with the MRIdian system have been selected for oral and poster presentations at this year's meeting. For a comprehensive look at AAPM 2014 sessions, download the meeting program here.

First patient treatments on the MRIdian system began in January of 2014 at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Mo. Since the launch of its MRI-guided RT program, the center has treated a wide array of disease sites including breast, bladder, lung, pancreas and stomach. Clinical applications experts from ViewRay will be available in booth 639 at AAPM to demonstrate treatment planning and delivery functionality of the system.
