Video Processor is software programmable.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring video encode, decode, and image processing functionalities, Scalable Video ENgine for mobile devices (SVENm) supports H.264, MPEG4, VC-1, or DivX video standards, and handles image processing tasks such as deinterlacing, down/up scaling, noise reduction, or video-to-display-adoption. With multiple interfaces including SDIO, Nand Flash, GPIO, and SDIO/CE-ATA, SVENm complement mobile SoCs used in portable products such as MP3 players and cell phones.

ON DEMAND Microelectronics Introduces SVENm, the Video Companion at the Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan in August 2006

Taipei (TW), 19th July 2006 - At the 6th annual Embedded Systems Conference Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan) 2006 ON DEMAND Microelectronics (ODM), leading supplier of video solutions for mobile and high-definition digital TV- and video applications, introduces its outstanding and worldwide unique Scalable Video ENgine for mobile devices (SVENm). ODM presents SVENm to the Asian audience from August 17th to 18th, 2006 at this international embedded event.

SVENm is a versatile video companion that complements existing SoCs systems with video encode, decode and image processing functions and can for example upgrade a MP3/Audio or cell phone with video. Due to the multiple interfaces available on the SVENm, the solution can be an ally for a wide variety of applications and very low-power usage makes it especially suitable for portable products.

"With SVENm we give the customer a fast and cost-efficient possibility to grade up their systems with sophisticated video functionalities. By simply interfacing our programmable solution a new product can be generated and put on the market very quickly. Our solution turns for example a simple MP3 player into a multimedia gadget in practically no time", explains Christian Tiringer, CEO of ODM.

The architetcure of SVENm is highly optimized in regards of area and power consumption. SVENm the software-programmable video processor operates all video (e.g. H.264, MPEG4, VC-1, DivX) standards and is ready for all kinds of image processing tasks such as deinterlacing, down- and upscaling, noise reduction or video-to-display-adoption.

Due to its multiple interfaces (e.g. SDIO, Nand Flash, GPIO, SDIO/CE-ATA) SVENm can complement a wide range of diverse mobile SOCs - cell phones, personal medias player, MP3 chipsets, video conferencing systems and many more applications can be served by SVENm.

The battery-life-issue mobile applications have to deal with was tackled by ODM by using cutting edge power reduction strategies while en- and decoding making SVENm a highly flexible and power-saving companion.

About ON DEMAND Microelectronics (ODM)
ON DEMAND Microelectronics (ODM) provides reliable and versatile solutions for high profile video and image processing semiconductors. ODM?s fully software programmable products are based on the revolutionary Vector Signal Processor (VSP). This multi standard video engine offers enormous processing power at extremely low power consumption, and in combination with the added benefit of scalability, the VSP enables the first single chip solution dedicated to the portal media player and digital mobile TV market. The modular design of the VSP allows ODM partners under fierce competitive pressure to differentiate their products from that of their competitors? by responding to new requirements with a reduced time-to-market. ODM?s domain expertise in system video and imaging supports partners to act fast in the volatile emerging digital consumer markets.

ODM was founded in 2002 as a Spin-Off of the Austrian branch of Analog Devices. Besides the headquarters in Vienna, ODM has branches in Munich, Austin/Texas, Taipei and Tokyo.
