Video-over-IP Encoder utilizes iSCSI technology for storage.

Press Release Summary:

Employing MPEG-4 compression, VIP X1600 16-channel video-over-IP encoder allows transmission of full-motion video at 30 fps at 2CIF or 2/3 D1 resolution. Encoder accommodates up to 4 hot-swappable modules, each with 4 analog video or combined audio/video inputs. Dual streaming feature provides 2 parallel video streams, enabling recording at 2 different quality levels for saving disk space and bandwidth. Unit includes 2 Ethernet connections and dual network socket.

Bosch Expands IP Family of CCTV Network Products with 16-channel Encoder Using iSCSI Storage

o 16-channel, storage-efficient, dual streaming encoder
o Attached Storage via iSCSI
o 'Hot-swappable' input modules allow uninterrupted operation and system expansion

Bosch Security Systems has expanded its family of video-over-IP encoders for networked CCTV systems with the VIP X1600, a unique 16-channel unit that features 'hot-swappable' input modules and uses revolutionary iSCSI technology for storage. The new encoder is part of Bosch's comprehensive VIP series of IP network products. All devices in the range integrate seamlessly with existing analog cameras and networks and employ MPEG-4 compression. This compression allows transmission of full-motion video at 30 frames per second (fps) at 2CIF or 2/3 D1 resolution. For optimal performance of the VIP X1600, full 4CIF/ full D1 resolution at 15 fps per channel is available. Signal decoding is achieved using either a VIP XD decoder or a PC running VIDOS, Bosch's Video Management System, or the web browser.

The VIP X1600 accommodates up to four 'hot-swappable' modules, each with four analog video or combined audio/video inputs. This means that additional video or audio/video modules can be exchanged or added at any time without interrupting transmission to the existing channels. Easy expansion with high channel density is therefore achieved and at low cost. The dual-streaming feature provides two parallel video streams to give a total of eight streams per module, or 32 streams per complete unit. Dual streaming allows viewing and recording at two different quality levels to save disk space and bandwidth.

Bosch is the first company to employ iSCSI block storage protocol technology in a CCTV surveillance system. This technology allows efficient, low-cost and fully expandable storage - more flexible than a conventional Network Video Recorder (NVR). An iSCSI storage array can be directly connected to the VIP X1600 for reliable recording and storage 'at the edge' or at another location in the network. Alternatively, the iSCSI device can be connected centrally in the network for storage of digital video streams. iSCSI storage enables the VIP X1600 to function as a conventional DVR, but with much greater capacity.

Network port redundancy on the VIP X1600 is afforded by two Gigabit Ethernet connections on the front - especially useful for local 'recording from the edge' by attaching the iSCSI unit directly to the VIP1600. In addition, the dual network socket on the unit allows local storage using a cross cable.

The VIP X1600 supports a high number of fixed and PTZ cameras, including Bosch's AutoDomes. Using VASA, Bosch's hybrid IP integration software, the encoder is a central component in the migration from analog to IP with full transparency to the end user.
