Fairchild Semiconductor Announces Industry's Only Video Filter/Driver to Offer Selectable High Definition, Progressive Scan and Standard Definition Filters

Added Functionality Addresses the Latest TV, Set-Top Box, and DVD Applications

San Jose, Calif.-August 30, 2004-Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) announces the FMS6407, the only video filter/driver offering the combined functionality of high definition (HD), progressive scan (PS) and standard definition (SD) filters--all in one chip. The FMS6407 features a triple 6th order filter with selectable 30MHz, 15MHz or 8MHz cutoff frequencies, making this device flexible enough to be used in a broad range of video applications. For added capability, these filters can be bypassed, allowing the output amplifiers to accommodate higher bandwidth (80MHz) PC applications. The FMS6407 is an ideal solution for removing high frequency noise prior to digitizing the signal (anti-aliasing) or for removing artifacts introduced during D/A conversion in the encoder (reconstruction filtering) in LCD TV, set-top box, DVD and HD/Blu-ray applications.

The flexible FMS6407 offers 2 to1 multiplexers to accommodate multiple video formats (YPbPr/RGB or YPbPr/YC-CV) and will automatically adjust sync tip clamp voltages to the appropriate levels, depending on the video format selected. All three outputs on the FMS6407 are driven by amplifiers with selectable gains of 0dB or 6dB, which can drive 1Vpp or 2Vpp signals into AC- or DC-coupled terminated video loads. The AC-coupled inputs include DC restore and bias circuitry. Other important features include SD/PS/HD stopband attenuations of 56dB/48dB/40dB, 0.26% differential gain, and a 0.11 degree differential phase.

"The FMS6407 takes our leading edge video filter/driver technology and adds even more functionality," said Ben Takada, Fairchild's business development director for video products. "With the FMS6407, we now offer on-chip clamp select to handle the various video formats, a solution for progressive scan (480p) and PC applications, along with standard definition (NTSC/PAL/SECAM) and high definition (1080i/720p) products, all in the same device."

The FMS6407 adds to Fairchild's growing portfolio of high-performance video products, including the FMS6419 SD/HD video filter driver and two award winners, the FMS6417 video filter and the FMS6418A video filter driver. In addition to video filters and drivers, Fairchild provides additional solutions for set-top box, DVD player, HDTV and other consumer applications. These products include data converters, amplifiers, MOSFETs, optocouplers, regulators, LEDs, and LED drivers.

The FMS6407 is available in a 20-pin TSSOP package. This lead-free (Pb-free) product meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with the European Union requirements, which will take effect in 2005. A demo/evaluation board (FMS6407DEMO) is available to illustrate the full performance of the FMS6407.
