Envivio Encoder Upgrade First to Unify All Leading IPTV, Mobile and Internet TV Video Formats in a Single Broadcast-Quality Platform

Provides Optimal Quality of Experience, Flexibility and Efficiency to Service Providers and Content Owners to Maximize Success of TV without Boundaries

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Envivio, the leading provider of live and on-demand multi-screen video processing solutions, announced today that a new firmware upgrade for its 4Caster C4 family of Three Screen video encoders brings to market the world's first unified, broadcast-quality, video processing platform with built-in support for all leading IPTV, Mobile and Internet TV video formats. The new 4Caster 2.3 release will be on display for the first time at IBC 2010 in Stand 1.D72.

With the new 4Caster C4 offering, service providers can reduce the complexity and cost of their video headends by using a single encoder to handle all of the pre-processing of a source and then output concurrent, high quality, optimized streams to support any device in their network. Content and TV channel providers can deploy a single encoder to prepare a channel or content stream for simultaneous distribution to multiple service providers and a variety of delivery platforms. In both cases, the upgrade significantly reduces the need for multiple, parallel silos of equipment.

"Everyone is talking about the new multi-screen world, but video headend providers are still offering old-style, single-purpose headends for video processing," said Boris Felts, VP of marketing, Envivio. "With our latest generation 4Caster C4 firmware, Envivio dramatically simplifies planning and development for service providers, broadcasters, and content owners. Not only can they repurpose 4Caster C4 systems for other screens -- a feature Envivio has offered for years -- but each encoder can support multiple screens and adapt to changing services. Regardless of configuration, each screen receives the full benefit of Envivio's proven and patented industry-leading technologies for maximizing video quality."

The new 4Caster C4 firmware provides key enhancements that simplify deployment of Over the Top video services, including a native publishing interface for leading content delivery networks such as Akamai, Level 3 and Limelight, as well as integrated content protection via Playready and HLS encryption with built-in key interfaces for major DRM platforms. Envivio has extended the system's unmatched picture quality with added support for 1080p resolution video for Flash, PIFF and Apple HTTP Live Streaming. Support for alternative audio streams, subtitles, closed captioning and significantly reduced end to end transmission delay as compared to the live event extend the appeal of Over the Top video services by creating a sophisticated experience comparable to DVD and advanced digital services. In stream ad insertion creates new opportunities for revenue development.

All screens benefit from a new generation of video pre-processing tools that improve the quality of source signals and ensure that content is optimized before compression begins. Furthermore, Envivio's new release of its proprietary Extreme encoding technology increases the efficiency and quality of the compression codec, yielding measurable results including a ten percent compression improvement for mobile services.

A new array of video cross-conversion upscaling algorithms uses proprietary Envivio technology to eliminate the need for additional stand-alone hardware. Based on an advanced combination of field structure analysis, motion-adaptive deinterlacing and polyphase resizing filters, the video quality achieved through these Envivio-exclusive enhancements rivals the most expensive SD to HD cross-converters.

Envivio 4Caster version 2.3 for live applications and version 2.5, which will deliver the same feature set for offline file-to-file applications, are presently in Beta testing with key partners worldwide and will be available for deployment in Q4 2010.
