Victaulic Introduces Differential Pressure Controller for Variable Flow HVAC Systems

New valve gives engineers and balancing contractors unmatched control when balancing systems.

EASTON, PA - Victaulic, the world's leading manufacturer of mechanical pipe joining systems, today announced availability of the Tour and Andersson Differential Pressure Controller designed for use in variable flow HVAC systems. The Differential Pressure Controller gives engineers and balancing contractors increased control over temperatures, as well as reduced noise in the system and simplified balancing, commissioning and maintenance procedures.

When pressures across a control valve are not constant, the result is dramatic temperature fluctuations throughout the building. The Differential Pressure Controller stabilizes differential pressures across the control valve eliminating these fluctuations. Because it is easier to control a pressure than a temperature, the result is enhanced accuracy and thereby enhanced energy efficiency.

High differential pressures between valves may lead to noise that is particularly irritating when located near tenants. Differential pressure control valves effectively minimize noise from temperature control valves because they take up the excess pressure and vent the system. They also feature balanced plugs and a high time-constant which prevents plugs from vibrating at audible frequencies. Unlike temperature control valves, differential pressure control valves are located far from tenants further reducing the potential for noise.

Without Differential Pressure Controllers, circuits in variable flow systems are interactive, meaning if there is one unstable control loop, it will create differential pressures in all other circuits. When Differential Pressure Controllers are used, circuits are independent of each other making the circuit simpler to balance, commission and maintain. With a differential pressure controller, each branch can be balanced independently and one unstable control loop will not cause oscillations in other control loops. Plus, re-balancing of existing circuits is not needed should a building be extended.

The Tour and Andersson Differential Pressure Controller is available in sizes ½-2"/15-50 mm (Series 793) with threaded end connections and in sizes 2-4"/65-100 mm (Series 794) with ANSI Class 150 flanged end connections.
