Viconics Wireless Gateway Receives Honourable Mention for ASHRAE Product Innovation Awards

MONTREAL, Feb. 13 - Viconics Electronics Inc., showcased the new VT7000 series wireless thermostats and Viconics Wireless Gateway at the 2008 AHR expo held at the Javits convention center in NYC. The wireless gateway product also received a honourable mention at the New Product Innovation awards in the category of building automation equipment.

The Viconics Wireless Gateway and VT7000 series thermostats have been designed to allow for low cost centralization of HVAC unitary equipment such as fan coil units, roof top / heat pumps as well as radiant heating and cooling equipment which are prevalent in the existing inventory of buildings without the need to run additional communication wiring.

The VT7000 series communicating thermostats, which integrates easily to any BACnet MS/TP or Lontalk automation system, have become a popular alternative to traditional split type controllers (wall sensor & programmable controller) due to its lower total installation, wiring and commissioning cost as compared to traditional controls. The network portion of the VT7000 series communicating-thermostats has been replaced with a wireless adapter that eliminates the need for daisy chain wiring between controllers, a common problem in the past that would have prohibited the possibility of centralization.

The Wireless network is based upon a Zigbee (802.15.4) compliant platform that utilizes mesh topology which ensures reliable and repeatable network communicating at speeds rivalling current wired networks used in buildings today.

The Viconics Wireless Gateway's purpose is two-fold. Principally it provides a wireless mesh network access point in which all of the thermostats wireless data is represented and translated into simple BACnet or Lontalk objects or SNVT's. This data can then be integrated in a similar way to there wired (VT7000 series) counterparts. Secondly the gateway, along with remote configuration software, provides a simple way in which to remotely configure all of the wireless thermostats.
