HESSAPP Announces: BLUETURN 250 Self-Loading Vertical Turning Center

Self-Loading Vertical Turning Center Affordably Priced for
Production Job Shops at Less than $187,000 (list price)

PORT HURON, MI - AUGUST 25, 2004 - HESSAPP, a leading manufacturer of Vertical Turning Centers and Multi-Function Turning Centers for the global automotive Industry and Production Job Shops, today announced the self-loading, inverted spindle BLUETURN 250 Vertical Turning Center (VTC). The BLUETURN 250 VTC features a turn/swing diameter of 250/320mm and is list-priced at less than $187,000.

"The BLUETURN 250 has been engineered and priced for automotive parts suppliers and production job shops requiring high throughput of parts requiring turning operations," said Tracy Ellis, Manager, Cross Hüller - HESSAPP Division. "HESSAPP is renowned for building robust VTCs with motorized spindles that generate high speeds and loads of HP and torque. We have incorporated that philosophy into the BLUETURN, providing customers with HESSAPP's years of VTC experience in a commodity turning center with high reliability, speed and accuracy, as well as low cycle times."

Capabilities of the BLUETURN 250 include a turn/swing diameter of 250/320 mm. Rapid traverse rates are 60 m/min at an acceleration rate of 6 m/s². In addition, the BLUETURN 250 features a 12-station turret with a DIN 69880 VDI 40 tool holder adapter. Driven tooling capability is also available.

The BLUETURN 250 features the GE Fanuc 21i controller as a standard feature with Manual Guide i software available. It provides an easy-to-understand and straightforward operator interface, interactive screens and powerful machining functions. With a few keystrokes and within a third of the time required on a standard CNC ISO environment, it is possible to input, test and execute a program. A turning program can be simulated in the 2D or 3D solid model view, displaying the cutting path and tooling. Standard G code programs can be animated, too.

The Siemens 840 D controller is available as an option. It features ShopTurn with graphical support and integrated profile calculator, which allows easy and quick creation of contours. Simulation, tool list and many other functions are included for rapid programming and testing.

The BLUETURN 250 accepts programs generated on third party CAM programs or operators can use HESSAPP's canned cycles for simple and fast part programming.

Manual intervention for maintenance has been dramatically reduced with a single-piece machine base with steeply angled surfaces allowing chips to fall from the inverted spindle directly through a cast-in duct and onto a conveyor, which evacuates them to an external bin.

During the development phase, all casting components for the BLUETURN 250 were simulated using Finite Element Analysis, resulting in a very stiff machine with 3-point support requiring no anchor bolts. Using simulation, the number of moving parts has been minimized and they were made easily visible through the generously sized viewing windows as well as accessible through large maintenance doors. The ergonomically friendly design results in improved set-up efficiency, lower mean-time-to-repair and the avoidance of lost-time incidents effecting the operator and machine
