Original Press Release:

Powerful, Compact and Fully Upgradeable VMC

Chevalier Machinery, Inc. continues to expand its line of machining centers to meet the changing needs of today's industries. Its latest entry is the new QP series, a space-saving VMC that can accommodate various upgrades in the future so that shops can cut costs, improve productivity and make themselves more competitive. Machine footprint is 79" x 81" x 101" (QP2026L) and 91" x 81" x 101" (QP2033L) which should easily fit most manufacturing cells. Upgradeability features include pre-wiring for the 4th axis and hoses and fittings for the spindle chiller and the coolant-through-spindle. The QP series is equipped with the new FANUC Oi-MB conversational control with Al preview function, high performance digital servo, spindle drives and motors and graphic display. Standard features includes ethernet jack for networking, 24 tools arm type ATC, 10,000rpm 20HP spindle with coolant circulation (optional 12,000rpm direct coupled spindle available), high speed rigid tapping, remote MPG and easy pull-out chip drawers. A ring type coolant nozzle in the air purged spindle provides a constant curtain of coolant to prevent thermal buildup between tool and workpiece. The machine has premium linear guideways on three axes and direct drive on the Z axis. Slanted inside front walls, sloping way covers and a standard chip flushing system work together to efficiently wash down chips into the chip drawers. For shops that demand quicker chip disposal, models with dual chip augers combined with a chip conveyor can be pre-ordered from the factory. With 31.9" x 20" (QP2026L) and 39.4" x 20" (QP2033L) table sizes, 1181/1181/708 rapids and 26" x 20" x 20" (QP2026L) and 33" x 20.5" x 20" (QP2033L) XYZ travels, the QP Series can easily handle workpieces up to 1100lbs. while generating 3014lbs maximum thrust force in the X axis. The cutting feedrate peaks at 394ipm. Like all new-generation Chevalier VMCs, the QP series features massive all-Meehanite cast iron construction with extensively ribbed frame and wide stance machine base to increase rigidity and dampen vibration. Despite the small footprint, net machine weight is 11,054lbs. (QP2026L) and 12,210lbs (QP2033L). A bi-directional, random access tool changer features a floating type tool discharge system which eliminates the stress generated by the tool release cylinders. Tool change time is 2.5 secs tool to tool and 5.5 secs chip to chip. Ultra-precise positioning and repeatability are assured with its pre-tensioned class C3 1.57" ballscrews with .472" pitch and servo motors directly coupled to the ballscrews. High precision linear guides on all axes further increase rigidity and stiffness while reducing friction.
