ColchesterCNC Introduces Richmond Vertical Machining Center to North American Market

CINCINNATI-ColchesterCNC's new Richmond VMC line of vertical machining centers provides sharper accuracy, enhanced strength, ease of use, and incomparable value to machine shops throughout North America.

The Richmond VMC 1000, the first of the Richmond VMC line, weighs more than 10,000 pounds and features a cast-iron base, column, and saddle for superior dampening and rigidity. Coupled with dual supported, pre-tensioned 40 mm ballscrews (most competitors use 32 mm) and linear guideways, the Richmond VMC 1000 delivers repeatability of .0001 of an inch.

The machine features a Fanuc Motion Control System for ease of use, high reliability and faster programming as well as an ergonomic design that allows for easier operator interface and machine access. The VMC 1000's 1181-inch/min. rapid rates, 8000 RPM spindle, and 15 HP spindle drive motor enable maximum output for a machine of this size.

Additional features include the strongest and most accurate spindle in its class, made possible by the use of more spindle bearings; as well as grease-packed trucks and caged rollers, which help provide a life cycle three times longer than Richmond's closest competitor. The machine also offers double row, angular contact INA bearings supporting the ball screw; an electronic ATC; a 6-port wrap-around spindle coolant sleeve; the deepest throat in its market segment; and a convenient air coupling near the operator's control panel for connection of an air gun. For ease of cleaning, operators can also connect a coolant hose and/or a wash gun to a coupling off the coolant pump in the rear of the machine.

"In my 30-plus years in the machine tool industry, I've never seen a 40-taper vertical machining center cut as well as the Richmond," said Doug Henderson, President of ColchesterCNC. "The Richmond VMC 1000 provides good, solid performance for customers interested in increasing productivity and parts precision. It's simply the best value on the market."

The Richmond VMC 1000 was introduced officially to the North American market in March 2002 and will be on display for the first time publicly at Eastec in May. However, ColchesterCNC's new machine is available for purchase now and can be seen and demonstrated in ColchesterCNC's Cincinnati, Ohio showroom. The Richmond VMC line is positioned for use by U.S., Canadian, and Mexican machine tool production shops with up to 50 employees.
