Verizon Wireless Introduces Broadband Network in Tyler, Texas

Tyler Residents Can Now Enjoy High-Speed Wireless Internet, E-mail, Mobile Music and Gaming

DALLAS, Nov. 20 -- Verizon Wireless continues its commitment to provide customers with superior wireless services throughout Texas and today announced the launch of its Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network in Tyler. The broadband network provides Tyler businesses and residents access to the latest high-speed business and entertainment services on their wireless phones, laptop computers and other wireless devices.

The expansion is part of an aggressive ongoing network investment by Verizon Wireless of $35 billion in the last seven years, including nearly $5 billion invested in the first nine months of this year. The company is committed to providing its customers with the most reliable network. Customers in Tyler and the surrounding areas can now enjoy the true mobility of high-speed wireless data. Whitehouse and Noonday will also benefit from the Tyler expansion. Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network has also expanded to the East Texas towns of Longview, Kilgore and Lakeport.

"Whether you are a Tyler resident and part of the growing economy or visiting for the world-famous rose festival, you can benefit from our latest high-speed broadband network expansion," said Luis M. Cruz, region president for Verizon Wireless. "BroadbandAccess gives businesses the advantages of speed, mobility and security, while V CAST Music and video gives customers access to the latest entertainment services and downloads."

The Tyler launch involved installing high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the region and extends the Verizon Wireless EV-DO network to the area. The expansion runs from US Highway 69 at County Road 431 southward to County Road 137 and on State Highway 64 from County Road 1184 to County Road 2206 in the east. The northern boundaries reach to the intersections of US Highway 271 and County Road 383, and County Road 35 and County Road 37. The EV-DO expansion also extends southward to the intersection of State Highway 155 and County Road 1261 and the intersection of State Highway 110 and County Road 2175.

BroadbandAccess allows customers to connect wirelessly to the Internet, download e-mail and applications and log into their corporate servers via their laptop at broadband speeds. The technology provides mobile workers full access, productivity and security, just as if they were at their desks and attached via a high-speed wired connection, but with the freedom of true mobility.

With average connection speeds of 400-700 kilobits per second (kbps), users can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file -- in about 20 seconds. The Verizon Wireless EV-DO technology was first introduced in Texas in Austin, and is available in the Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Victoria, Laredo, Sherman/Denison, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Bryan/College Station, Waco, Corpus Christi, Wichita Falls, Longview and the Rio Grande Valley metro areas.

The Verizon Wireless V CAST service gives customers access to short video content, downloadable music, and cutting-edge 3D games on their mobile phones. V CAST provides current news, weather, sports and entertainment programming on demand. And with access to more than 1.4 million songs, music lovers with a V CAST Music-enabled phone can download and play their favorite songs -- all while on-the-go.
