Vent Panel offers fire-spread safety for electronics chassis.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring flame-retardant coating that expands and closes honeycomb cells, PyroCide Vent Panel stops flames from spreading and eliminates air flow to propagate fire. It has more than 95% open area for minimum resistance to air flow within electronics cooling chassis. Suited for telecom and datacom equipment designed to meet Telcordia NEBS standards, RoHS compliant product has ASTM E-84 Class A rating and can be used in ETSI cabinets.

New PyroCide Vent Panels from UAF Offer Crucial Fire-Spread Safety

Oct. 8, 2008

SAUGET, Ill. - The new Universal Air Filter® honeycomb PyroCide Vent Panel prevents fires that start within an electronics chassis from spreading any further, which is critical for industry standards requiring flame safety. The vent panel's flame-retardant coating expands and closes the honeycomb cells, thus stopping flames from spreading and eliminating air flow to propagate a fire.

The PyroCide Vent Panel has more than 95 percent open area for negligible resistance to air flow within an electronics cooling chassis. In contrast to other products that use solid metal and reduced open area to block the flame, this honeycomb vent panel allows thermal engineers to maximize cooling air due to the lower air flow resistance. The electronics chassis also can use smaller fans, which reduces noise and lowers energy costs.

"Another benefit of the PyroCide Vent Panel over other fire break panels is that it can be designed to any dimension, various thicknesses and unique shapes," said Mike Miano, engineering and sales manager at UAF. "It also can be configured with a frame, Quadrafoam filter media and EMI gaskets."

The PyroCide Vent Panel is very useful for telecom and datacom equipment designed to meet Telcordia NEBS standards. The PyroCide Vent Panel has an ASTM E-84 Class A rating with low flame spread and low smoke index values, and the panel can be used in ETSI cabinets and is RoHS Compliant.

In an effort to assist design engineers in meeting critical design, testing and evaluation deadlines for air filter media, UAF offers a complimentary, round-the-clock prototype service available worldwide via www.uaf.com. To receive a prototype, the engineer can submit a request on the Internet or via telephone, fax or e-mail. Once the prototype is submitted, it is produced and shipped within five working days.

Universal Air Filter® products are RoHS Compliant and meet the following standards and classifications: UL 94 HF-1, ATCA, UL 900 Class 2, CE, Telcordia, NEBS GR-78-CORE and GR-63-CORE, micro TCA and ETSI.
