New Intermec CV60 RFID-Ready Vehicle Mount Computer Makes Compliance Easy

· Offers three industry firsts: first RFID-ready device of its kind, first integrated radio for wireless scanner support, first integrated Bluetooth® technology in a vehicle mount terminal

· Second generation RFID forklift reader from Intermec

· Provides investment protection with easy migration from wireless to RFID

EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 3, 2004 - Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced the RFID-ready CV60, the first rugged vehicle mount computer to integrate RFID with both Bluetooth(TM) technology and a wireless base station. This communication integration allows easy upgrading to RFID, eliminates the need for an external base station to communicate with wireless scanners, simplifies installation, reduces lifetime cost of ownership and provides a safer and less cluttered workspace for vehicle operators.

The CV60 is the second generation of RFID forklift readers from Intermec. The CV60 and its predecessor, the 5055 vehicle mount terminal, are designed for data collection applications in warehousing and distribution, manufacturing, transportation and customer service.

"The RFID-ready CV60 not only eases migration from earlier generation devices, it offers straightforward migration to RFID," said Intermec Vice President Mike Colwell. "Industries facing mandates to integrate RFID into their supply chains now have one more powerful avenue to compliance."

The CV60 offers full PC functionality and dependable operation, even in the most adverse environments. The CV60 has a specially designed vibration and shock dampening system for spinning drive applications, as well as industrial-grade solid-state capabilities that can stand up to the most demanding environments, including freezing temperatures. The system also is designed to avoid inadvertent shutdowns and power loss, common to material handling vehicles, using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

With a cast magnesium housing, the CV60, whether fixed or vehicle mounted, features a powerful Intel(TM) P-III Ultra Low Power 800 MHz processor and offers a choice of Microsoft Windows CE and XP operating systems, giving users all the PC functionality and speed of a desk top computer. In addition, industry-standard development tools, such as Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework, Visual C++(tm), Visual Basic(tm), Java® and HTML(tm) can be used with the CV60, making application development fast and easy.

RFID technology is a complement to industry's current bar code-based tracking systems, allowing companies to automatically track inventory throughout an entire supply chain. RFID automatic data collection typically does not require line of sight or manual scanning as do most bar code-based systems. For example, information from RFID-tagged cases on a pallet can be read automatically using fixed, mobile or handheld readers rather than requiring individual bar code scanning. Intermec's Intellitag RFID technology adds the capability to change and update the information on each tag as it proceeds, providing new levels of up-to-date information for better decision making.

Intermec RFID already is at work throughout the world, deployed in wide-ranging applications that include inventory and asset management, access control, compliance tracking, and personnel and vehicle identification.

Intermec's RFID technology meets existing ISO global standards and EPC specifications and is upgradeable as additional RFID specifications evolve. Intermec has the world's widest range of UHF readers and tags systems, including systems certified for operation in the United States at 915 MHz and 2.45GHz, in Europe at 869MHz (meeting narrow-band requirements) and in Japan meeting 2.45GHz frequency regulations.
