Audiovox Introduces the First Headrest Video System with a Built -In DVD Player

Patent Pending technology is a breakthrough in installation ease and consumer convenience

Las Vegas, NV - January 7, 2004 - Audiovox Electronics Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corp., (NASDAQ: VOXX), has introduced the first Mobile Video Custom Headrest System with a built-in DVD Player, illustrating once again, why the company enjoys the number one position in the market. The innovative system, which has a patent pending, reduces installation time, is simple to operate and delivers a 'custom' look to the consumer.

Replace the vehicles OE headrests with Audiovox's HRDV700 and you get a 7-inch LCD screen built into each headrest, with one headrest also containing the DVD player. The screen in the second headrest uses the same video source. Remove the OE headrest, pop in the HRDV700 replacement headrests, wire for power and you are done. There is no cutting into existing headrests, and fabric, stitching style and overall workmanship combine to make this system a virtual OE match.

This new custom headrest solution program includes two modular headrests with 7-inch LCD screens that replace the OE headrests in Toyota, Lexus and GM vehicles. Toyota models include the Avalon, Camry, Highlander, Landcruiser, 4 Runner, Sequoia, Tundra, and Sienna. For Lexus: GX470, LX470 and RX330. For GM: Cadillac Escalade EXT/ESV, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Sierra, Yukon/Yukon XL/Denali/Denali XL and Hummer H2.

"We are very excited about this breakthrough, said Tom Malone, Senior VP Sales. Our product development teams are busy working on concepts that take mobile entertainment to the next level and this product does just that. It's the ultimate custom look, without the custom installation process. It provides consumers who do not require or want either an installed overhead system, or the transient nature of a portable bag system, an additional purchasing option."

Other features include a built-in FM modulator for piping the audio through the vehicle's stereo speakers and a built-in infrared transmitter for wireless audio reception. The screens adjust to a 45° angle for optimum viewing. The system also has dual-source capability, which allows one viewer to watch a movie while the other one plays a video game.

Both headrest screens feature built-in controls, and there are two-full featured remote controls - a real plus when you consider the user of this system is most often a child, and lost or damaged remotes are a real possibility. On-screen functions include Power, Source Select, ARC, Dual IR Transmitter, Picture Control Volume Control and IR Repeater. The remotes allow little viewers to control their own screen and reinforce "the seat belt stays on" rule. "Parents appreciate the idea that all viewing activities can be done with the seat belts on," Malone points out.

Malone believes the Headrest DVD System will be a major hit with Audiovox's distribution network. "Dealers who already have our systems are impressed by our engineering, their style and their function. Ease of installation has always been an issue with mobile video and this system answers that and then some. We're launching this product with a working display at the point of purchase so that customers can see and feel the quality of this new concept. We believe the features and benefits will translate not only to a new level of consumer satisfaction but also to increased sales and profits for our dealers."

Malone concluded, "We have been a proponent of the exciting opportunities in mobile entertainment since we entered the category. We have established our leadership by providing high quality and solution-savvy products and have been in the forefront of every product evolution, introducing firsts in every category from overheads to bags. Our success has been the combination of market knowledge, innovative products, aggressive programs and access to technology. Our new headrest program is just another example of that desire to lead."
