VEGA Launch a New Low Cost Radar for Solids Level

VEGA level radar - a brief history

In 1992, VEGA launched a new technology, VEGAPULS - pulse radar for process level measurement - it's advantages: non-contact, unaffected by vapours, pressure, temperature, viscosity and density changes - made it an almost universal level device for liquids measurement, but at a price! In 1997, VEGA revolutionised the radar level sector and introduced an affordable VEGAPULS 2-wire, loop powered radar level transmitter. It not only worked very well, it made radar level accessible and very popular with process engineers in many industries. VEGA became established as the market leader for process radar, a position they still hold today. In 2004, approaching their milestone of the 100,000th device sold, VEGA launched VEGAPULS 68, the first 2-wire loop powered radar specially designed for solids level measurement. A technology unaffected by filling, dust and air movement, it revolutionised the reliability of non-contact bulk solids level measurement.

Low cost solids radar level
Now, over 15 years on from their first radar, VEGA launch VEGAPULS 67. An affordable 'entry level' device for bulk solids level measurement, designed for applications where ultrasonic or capacitive probes have been traditionally used. It incorporates a new, innovative antenna system, which makes it possible to offer a considerably lower price, yet retain the heritage of tried-and-tested pulse radar technology using high sensitivity combined with ECHOFOX(TM) signal evaluation optimised for bulk solids.

Application Area's
The sensor is ideal for applications in small to medium sized silos, hoppers, crushers or conveyor level control with a range up to 15 m. It is suitable for any industries that handle bulk solids - from food, milling or recycling right through to building materials production and processing. The special mounting concept makes it easy to install the small, lightweight sensors. The 2-wire technology enables straightforward replacement of other systems as the existing wiring can be used. The sensor has all the relevant ATEX approvals for dust Ex hazardous areas along with Profibus and FF options, along with a 3 year warranty as standard with all VEGA UK devices.
