Comtrend Takes VDSL2 Residential Gateway Line-Up to the Next Level with Gigabit Ethernet Networking and 802.11n

New Residential Gateway Enables Telcos to Deploy Multi-mode hardware for VDSL2 and ADSL2+ with superior in-home connectivity utilizing gigabit Ethernet and higher speed WiFi.

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 17 -- Comtrend Corporation, a leading supplier of broadband, VoIP and data networking equipment, today announced its new CT-5376 VDSL2 residential gateway. This multi-mode VDSL2/ADSL2+ is designed for increased performance within the connected home. The CT-5376 enables broadband customers the ability to move High Definition (HD) multimedia content within the home network via an integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch as well as an integrated 802.11n WiFi Access Point capable of achieving WiFi throughput in excess of 100Mbps.

Home networking at 1000Mbps.

The Comtrend CT-5376 has an integrated 4-port 10/100/1000 BASE-T Ethernet switch with an additional 10/100/1000 FlexPort(TM) which can operate as a 5th LAN port or a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port for Fiber to the home applications.

The CT-5376 is a carrier-class device, designed for demanding environments such as multistream HD IPTV, multimedia sharing within the home network and Voice over IP, which require robust Quality of Service and breakneck speeds attainable with the latest in Broadband Access technologies, such as VDSL2 and fiber to the home.

The integrated 802.11n Access Point provides a 2x2 MIMO configuration, designed to deliver speeds in excess of 100Mbps to 802.11n clients. The Access Point maintains backward compatibility with 802.11b/g clients as well, assuring connectivity with legacy WiFi devices. Numerous WiFi features/enhancements within the CT-5376 help deliver on the promise of making HD multimedia content available within the secured WiFi network. With the CT-5376, Comtrend has implemented several optional elements of the 802.11n draft 2.0 specification, designed to improve rate/reach performance and residual packet error rate. Space-time block coding (STBC) has been implemented, which improves the reliability of data-transfers in the ever-challenging WiFi environment. The optional Short Guard Interval is available, reducing symbol time and increasing net data rates. 802.11n High Throughput (HT) mode, also known as Greenfield mode, as well as HT mixed mode is also available on the CT-5376, allowing increased throughput in 802.11n-only environments as well as mixed 802.11n/g/b environments.

The CT-5376 provides a USB 2.0 Host port, which can function as a Print Server or as a Digital Media Server when the user attaches a USB Mass Storage Device (Flash memory or Hard drive, e.g.). Any low-cost, off-the-shelf storage device can essentially be turned into a high-end NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, just by connecting it to the CT-5376's USB 2.0 host port. Multimedia content can now be shared within the home network to consumer electronics products such as: gaming consoles, set-top boxes, cell phones, network radios, and digital picture frames.

The CT-5376 is fully compliant with the Broadband Forum's TR-069 CPE WAN management protocol for secure remote management.

"The first in our new line-up of Residential Gateways with Gigabit Ethernet, the CT-5376 is designed to help Telcos deliver download speeds up to 100Mbps over VDLS2 to their customers," said Andrew Morton, Comtrend's General Manager. "Higher download speeds coupled with the ability to use the CT-5376 as a high performance gateway for fiber to the home via the Gigabit FlexPort(TM) enables telcos to cost effectively deploy one device for multiple next generation applications. The addition of 802.11n WiFi, Gigabit switching and USB Host makes this product the center point of the connected home."
