Siemens Building Technologies Adds New Product Line to BAS Offering: The SED2 HVAC Variable Frequency Drive

Buffalo Grove, Illinois - July 22nd, 2002 - The HVAC Products Division of Siemens Building Technologies announces the immediate availability of the new SED2 (Siemens Easy Drive) variable frequency drive. Designed and manufactured by Siemens, the new SED2 Easy Drive will serve HVAC variable torque applications such as fans, blowers and pumps in air handling units, chillers, condenser pumps, chilled water pumps, and cooling towers applications.

Single-sourcing with Siemens now easier than ever
As an added advantage, building and facilities managers can now enjoy the efficiency, convenience and economy of single sourcing all their BAS needs with Siemens Building Technologies. "The addition of the Easy Drive makes us the leading supplier of building automation systems to now manufacturer, service and support their own line of HVAC networkable drives solutions," says Robert Sore', Senior Product Manager, HVAC Products Division.

The Siemens Easy Drive easily networks with other BAS systems
According to Sore', other building control companies have to subcontract to other drives makers to try to piece together a complete system. The result, he says, can be installation and start-up problems, reduced energy efficiencies, compromised system integrity, and added integration and maintenance costs. "The Easy Drive is a powerful HVAC solution that not only seamlessly integrates with our own APOGEE brand of controllers, but also easily networks with our competitor's communication protocols," Sore' explains. The EasyDrive has built-in Siemens' SBT P1 protocol and Johnson Controls' NCI N2 (Metasys®) communication protocols for easy network integration. The drive also offers direct connection with other popular networking protocols such as LON and Modbus devices through optional interface modules.

Siemens Easy Drive available in drive only or drive with bypass packages
Also available in drive with bypass option packages, the Siemens Easy Drive Bypass package is delivered as a complete system with all components packaged and pre-wired for simplified installation and start-up. The SED2 also offers extremely low harmonics without the use of external devices, custom built-in PID, pump controller with cascading functionality, belt failure detection, multi-level programming, essential services mode (smoke purge) and digital and analog I/O including direct Ni 1000 RTD sensor level inputs.
