CM Industrial Products® Offers Under The Cover Variable Frequency Drive

VFD gives Lodestar hoist enhanced precise positioning and speed control capabilities

AMHERST, N.Y., U.S.A., July 7, 2003 - CM Industrial Products, a division of Columbus McKinnon® Corporation, recently introduced the newest addition to its line of Lodestar® electric chain hoist offering, Under the Cover Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). VFDs are designed for use on three-phase 460/3 or 230/3 Lodestar hoists, and provide the end-user with precise positioning capabilities and enhanced speed control.

"The Variable Frequency Drive gives the Lodestar user better positioning ability and speed control during a lift," said Art Zobal, product manager. "By extending the capabilities of a Lodestar, the end-user can save time and reduces maintenance costs."

The VFD utilizes standard AC squirrel cage induction motors that give variable speed control with a single speed motor while minimizing the high-starting current on the motor for added reliability while extending motor life. Creep speed for precise positioning without plugging, electronic reversing, and multi-speed operation eliminates the need for conventional magnetic contactors. The VFD also has an electrodynamic braking system that extends the disc life of the motor brake.

The Under the Cover Variable Frequency Drive features two-step infinitely variable pushbutton control, three-programmable outputs, and the ability to monitor these parameters along with fault history capabilities. For added protection there is motor thermal overload and output phase loss detection. The VFD has a 6 to 1 speed ratio and an external braking resistor.
