Grace Construction Products Introduces Florprufe(TM)

Vapor Barrier Membrane Protects Expensive Floor Finishes From Moisture-Related Damage

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 20, 2003 - Grace Construction Products (GCP) (www.graceconstruction.com) sets a new industry standard with the introduction of Florprufe(TM), an innovative high-performance, integrally bonded, vapor barrier.

Designed for use below slabs-on-grade, Florprufe is a revolutionary advance in premium moisture protection for moisture-impermeable or moisture-sensitive floor finishes. Moisture control is the first step towards mold control. This integrally-bonded membrane, available throughout North America, is the latest addition to Grace's growing line of market-leading, specialty building products, which includes Preprufe® pre-applied waterproofing membranes, fluid-applied Procor®, Bituthene®, and Grace Ice and Water Shield®.

"With the introduction of Florprufe, the latest advancement in pre-applied membranes, Grace Construction Products once again demonstrates a leadership role in the industry in the development of waterproofing technologies and solutions," said Bob Sorrentino, vice president and general manager of Grace Construction Products, Specialty Building Materials. "This is the most sophisticated vapor barrier product on the market today and the only one that creates a permanent bond to the underside of concrete slabs on grade."

Typical uses for Florprufe include hospitals, schools, sports facilities, hotels and public residences where interior environments and expensive floor finishes have to be protected from the damaging effects of moisture. Florprufe protects valuable floor finishes such as wood, tile, terrazo, carpet and vinyl. "Florprufe is engineered to address current industry concerns, such as the increasing occurrence of flooring failures due to moisture related problems," adds Sorrentino.

Incorporating Grace's Advanced Bond Technology(TM), Florprufe is made of a sturdy, chemical-resistant polyolefin sheet, reinforced with a specially developed, non-tacky adhesive coating. Easy-to-use, it comes in lightweight, 4 x 11 5-foot kick-out rolls, which are applied over a leveled and compacted base. When liquid concrete is poured over the membrane, the pressure-sensitive adhesive forms a continuous integral bond to the concrete. Florprufe can be applied at temperatures as low as -4 C (25 F), is unaffected by wet weather and stays adhered to the slab, even in cases of ground settlement to provide ultimate vapor protection. Florprufe is highly durable, puncture resistant and allows for foot traffic until the concrete is poured. It complies with the latest ACI recommendations of Committees 302 and 360 and exceeds the ASTM E 1745 Class A rating.
